: Home made lift blocks???
Chief yelling alot 01-06-2002, 12:05 PM Ok so in my 4WD conversion I need to add some lift blocks (factory set-up) but I only have 1 block so I was wondering if I chould use squar tubing and drill a hole it and weld a pin on the other side. Any way of making the square tubing stonger
sugestions please :)
Benny 01-06-2002, 12:20 PM Some have done that. But also sealed up the ends to give it more strength.
But I strongly suggest using solid bar stock. Drill a hole in both side (or all the way through) and press in a pin.
WideJ 01-06-2002, 12:41 PM I saw wooden lift blocks on a truck in the wrecking yard (yes, they were u-bolted in), talk about dangerous!

FULLSIZE 01-06-2002, 01:04 PM look in a wrecking yard for another block, or buy a new pair. i think the most expensive cast iron blocks are like $40? not worth crashing or spitting out a collapsed home job(not saying you would do bad work, its just alot of stress on that area).

Where was the block front or rear? If you are dealing with a Scout II, the block was for leveling the rig. When you do the SOA build it into the pads most likely it will not be needed, also a lot of auto parts stores sell 1" lift blocks.

how much block you need cheif.. I my have something.......
Chief yelling alot 01-06-2002, 09:34 PM I should of been more spicif
Ok I got a 1/2 IH pickup 2wd then I found a 1/2 tone IH pickup 4wd same year. So I bought all the 4WD stuf. (to convert to 4WD it's a direct bolt up, one grate thing with IH) So when they built the 4x4 they added a 2 1/4 (I think) block in the rear to level the rear with the hight of the front with it's driving axel. It is a stock SOA.
But I thought about going to like a 3" blocks or maybe 3 1/2 for some exta lift
not to shure how much lift yet
Im4yotas 01-07-2002, 12:17 AM If you want something cheap, Pep Boys has 2&3"blocks for about $15, with U Bolts. But if you wanna build em, do the solid stock, or use Jay's idea.
Brandon
the cast blocks that are commonly sold are total crap.
they snap easier then home made tubing blocks.
custom whittled solid lump of steel is what i had to go with.
