: Saginaw pump swap

I finally converted to a saginaw pump. No more whine, and I can still steer when flexin hard, which wasn't always possible with the stock pump.

I found a mount from a 70's ford van with a 351W. Because of the different deck heights between to the 351W and 302, I had to trim a little of the top so the york mount would fit. Still need to get the york mounted, but that's not going to be a problem.

This style mount allowed me to keep the inverted mechanical fuel pump. Hadn't seen this style mount before, so I thought I'd post up a few pics.

Looks good, I plan on going to a saginaw on my F-150 this spring... So far I've killed 9 of those plastic ones..

My stock BII pump was still working when I pulled it. I believe it was the original 1984 pump. I never forced the steering though. My steering gear started puking oil all over though.

I've been running the sag pump hard, and it's getting hot. I might have to add a cooler. I think the old pressure and return lines were designed to do some cooling, so I might have to build something similar.

I haven't done the pressure mod yet. Not sure I need to.

I've got a Saginaw I picked up from a boneyard but haven't installed it yet. Those pics are useful, gave me some ideas for my bracketry. My stock pump is whining horribly but I've been too lazy to replace it so I have to deal with people's dirty looks whenever I turn.:D

I just did the swap too on my 85 F150. Grabbed the pump and bracket off an 86 van with EFI 302 and vbelts. bolted right up. Only problem I had was with the coil bracket interfering with the pump bracket.

Used the stock return line for my truck and the pressure line off the van. Looks factory, even kept the stock belt.
