Went to Telluride, Colorado for the weekend. Hope was to have the cruiser ready to drop off at Proffitts on the way but it wasn't. Body work sucks! Now I'm thinking 1-2 weeks, get it running and driving completely/finish body work and actually drive it down there for a couple days and bust out the paint job. Anywhoo, the town of Telluride was pretty much one of the weirdest places I've ever been, and I went to college in a hippie mecca up in Vermont and vote somewhat liberally but it borderline made me sick. But it was interesting, I met some of the guys there who started the biodiesel program and got the cell number of the guy who was in Outside Magazine a couple months ago. A couple of us are thinking of starting up a biodiesel program here in Park City...

But I did see lots of neat cruisers mostly stock. Town has maybe 600 people I would figure, I saw TONS of cruisers, more that really any other small area I've seen. Mostly 40s and tons of 60s, so many stock ones that I didn't even bother taking photos. But I did get most of the 40s except for the two niced ones because I didn't have the camera or the truck was driving. One was a nice tan late model (79 or later) 40 driven by a total yuppie with a FF rear and lots of gizmos. And another nice red 40 driven by an actually pretty hot woman. Here are photos, they are kind of in order that I found each cruiser, all in abouta 1-2 day period total.

Here is a photo of the town. Note the artist in the middle of the road painting, and then on top of that a tourist taking a picture of him. Then me taking a photo of both of them :D

By far the nicest FJ55 I have ever seen in person, completely restored in and out. Took a look and noticed a big old chevy style 5 speed shifter and sure enough there was an NV4500 between the frame rails. Very cool, very intellegent owner clearly parked it for the winter... Who ever built it seemed to know exactly what they were doing...

Again, this was on a random side street...

No sooner than a dread locked hippie rides by with skis on his bike (stereotypical Colorado ski town shot right?)

dieselcruiserhead

Does a guy on a unicycle ride by. I also saw a maybe 6 year old kid riding around on a unicycle, dropping off stairs, I couldn't believe it!

T-ride is full of rich hippie wantabe's. I'm sure mom and dad financed all those. I've been there one too many times. Just about every one of those rigs has a phish or gd sticker. Nobody there has ever been real friendly. That guy riding the bike in the ski boots probably live in a $3,000,000 house. Jerry's dead Phish sucks get a hair cut you frickin smelly hippie. Did you see the brand new Range Rover the 'hippies' climbed out of to dig through the "free clothes" boxes just off main street? What's up with the patchwork sidded cordaroy pants. Don't those things cost like $80. Thats a lot of money for dirty hippy. To anyone who actually live there...I'll meet you at the not starbucks for an $8 steamed hazelnut milk...

Here is a store called "Baked in Telluride." We have lots of dogs here in Park City and psuedo hippies and even have a collumn in the local newspaper called "More Dogs on Main Street" but Telluride blew us out of the water...

Farinvain totally hear what you are talking about.. I went to "Groovie UV bro," I spent a lot of time fixing my beater 1983 Volvo, barely able to fork down $40 for a new set of plug wires, with bitterness to all of the trustifarians with their new Lexus SUVs such. The dirtiest of the dirty. Some actually were geniunely dirty hippies, like "Hymie" (spelled Jamie but pronounced "Hi-may" :D ), who was one of the two dreadlocked bus drivers who couldn't stop talking and the next day I saw him with his maybe 4 or 5 dirty-ass kids running around...

Here is a random building that was in town. It said "open your mind, question your news sources, check out these websites"

Last of the 40s, a nice clean one for sale. By then Carrie was a little "cruisered out" rightfully so so I didn't get details on it but it was clean. Belonged to someone in the fire department on the mountain side. Talk about wealth, we have a TON here in Park City/Deer Valley, but what I saw there blew us out of the water. Private Airport with fullsize runway with maybe a dozen huge, gleaming lear jets... And $10 million homes overlooking the who valley left and right.. Literally unbelievable...

Finally, on our way there and back went through Moab, on the way back Sunday morning. I was hoping to see some cruisers running around since it is prerun weekend, we were only there
for maybe 20 minutes or so. I did see Ryan Davis towing his beater 40 around on the strip. Saw this pretty neat green pig with carb problems, but boy it sure looked good and made me only even more excited to get mine done...

On the way back we stopped at the shop, I have been offering "rides" in the new piggie left and right but every time someone shows up it is majorly under construction. Luckily it was all buttoned up and of course 5'5 Carrie had a little trouble getting into it but did :D She was definetly psyched to see it moving and driving, she said "I know you told me it moved but I guess it never really hit me!" Kind of glad she was the "first one" after all of the shit I've put her through working on the truck like a second job for the last year...

I guess I have a pretty sweet GF when she's sitting in the truck on a milk crate, with an engine running with no exhaust, driving a truck with little/no brakes at the time, who says "this thing is awesome" :)

That 55 was there last summer when I was there. Parked in the same spot. At least they removed the TT I put under there windshield wiper. I'm a sick man. I took the TT put it under the windshield and then took the picture. It was the one with Nolen's 55 on the cover.

Telluride was a huge freak show when we were there last summer. There was a free concert so maybe that made it worse. Lots of LCs, mostly 80s when we were there. They all looked at me like I was nuts for what I had done to my 80.

I think those pickups were called Space Cabs. I believe they were made by Winnebago or some other large RV place. They have super long rear driveshafts. I've always wanted the cab to build a trail rig on. Then put like a 3 foot bed for a spare and a cooler and some tools.

Hey Eric I kept remembering your comment about the New York Times etc and how much it sucked.. I was trying to remember where it was that you said that about, for some reason I kept thinking Sun Valley... Funny that you went through this whole thing and posted it last year and I don't even remember it... I even used the word hippie in your thread.

Telluride is definetely a funny little backwards town I hate to say. But it was definetely a good time for our own purposes.

I would never type "Sun Valley", It is SCUM Valley. This is where all the Hollywood SCUM comes to hang out. And really the skiing there isn't all that great. The other thing that is annoying is how people react to these Hollywood folks. Oh my gosh I just say Arnold Schwartzeneger or however it is spelled. Who cares? There are a lot of wanna be rich Idahoans who spend their time in Scum Valley on the look out for the celebrities. And to tell you the truth it really isn't that beautiful. Stanley, Idaho and further north is where the real beauty is in Idaho. My favorite site in Scum Valley is a white trailer when you come into town. It is early seventies vintage and has the Scum Valley Sun painted on the side with a similar looking moon next to it. Telluride definitely has better scenery than Sun Valley and I love going to Jackson Hole over either of them. I could stare at the Tetons for days without moving. And generally folks in Jackson Hole are friendly. Because of the proximity to Yellowstone there is not any one dominant social group. Everytime I'm in Jackson I pass Bubba's BBQ. I laugh my butt off everytime I drive by. Clinton wanted to eat at Bubba's while he was president. The secret service wanted to close the place off for security. The owner declined and said that they didn't take reservations, everyone had to wait their turn to eat as his restaurant. Also we were visiting an art gallery in Jackson and we were doing the one at a time thing. I would hold the dogs outside and Ginger would go look and then I'd go look. One of the gallery owner's brought my dogs a bowl of water and said that we could bring them inside if we would like because it was hot out. The cheapest piece of art was like $12,000 and there were several pieces in the 100-250,000 range. Nothing that we would ever be able to afford, but the owner treated us just as she would have somebody who could have purchase something. I think my biggest problem with some of these places is the egos that go with them. The folks that live at these places aren't any better than me, they still have to put their pants on every morning just like I do. ;) A little politeness goes a long ways with me.

I grew up in co and over the last few years sooooo many of them have started driving FJ60 cause they haul so much gear, can sleep in the back, ect... but the funniest part to me is they are driving the bigest fucking gas hog on the road! Enviros driving gas hogs cracks me up! Guess its ok for them to do it but they make a stink about everyone else.

Did you ever figure out what thickness of rocker you're going to use? (I only use my cell phone when I need call people, no need to call anyone for a month, sorry! ;) )

1/4=too heavy. 1/8=too light. 3/16=perfect.... :D

Since I had the 1/4" basically for free I went with that.. It is heavy duty!

How did your injector pump turn out?

the pump went in pretty well, though I have a bit of smoke still (I might try adjusting the valves.) More power, though the pump might be timed too early- I seem to run out of power at the top end, and my gas pedal needs adjustment. No one has said anything on DTLC list, so I'm going to have to figure it out for myself!

1/4" is what I have (not sure about the diesel) and I'm not going to second guess it. It works, and it isn't going anywhere. :D I think the rockers weigh less than the combined sheetmetal/crap/dirt that was cut out of my truck. ;)
