: Lift blocks in rear?
mud-magnet 01-06-2002, 04:10 PM after doing my SPOA and the rear springs up front with the missing links and a 2" shackle lift in the rear i noticed that the front is alot higher than the back, so would it be a good idea to put a "home made" lift block in the rear to bring it up? it'll be 2x2 square tubing with the ends blocked off for strength.......
i don't want to do it but i don't want the front higher than the rear and i don't want to lower the front cause i'm going to run 33"s...........
thanks

ZOOK94 01-06-2002, 04:30 PM I made blocks for mine from 2 x 1-1/2 steel bar, drilled with longer centering pins.
mud-magnet 01-06-2002, 04:36 PM ok, as long as someone has done it........... i'll see what happens might do it or might not,
unless some explains why its not a good idea....
thanks
bobaki 01-06-2002, 04:50 PM can;t be too careful........:D ....maybe ,maybe not
fatkid 01-06-2002, 04:54 PM It all about lift blocks in the front...:flipoff2:
mud-magnet 01-06-2002, 05:07 PM yeah i was going to put 12" lift springs in the rear with and a SPOA and 7" block in front, but i went this way instead........:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
fatkid 01-06-2002, 05:09 PM Sweet, get it! :flipoff2:
yagernc 01-07-2002, 06:08 AM put a winch up front. that should fix it

mud-magnet 01-07-2002, 08:07 AM i don't think a winch will bring it down 2" and i want the front to be left alone i want the rear brought up......

Take the main leafs out of your now "junk" front springs, cut the eyes off them. Put this long flat leaf ABOVE the top rear leaf. It'll add just a smidge of rate and lift and reduce axle wrap without much affect to the articulation.
Then maybe add an extra leaf or two from the old packs below the main leaf - try a couple of different combinations so it doesn't affect the rate and articulation much - maybe remove some of the original rear leafs if it works better that way. Should be able to get the rear up some without too much rate and artic. change.
Then add the front winch like someone else suggested to level it out. Unloaded you might be an inch higher in the rear but once you are loaded with gear for the weekend and travelling long distances it will be pretty leveled out and stable.

mud-magnet 01-07-2002, 09:32 AM thanks i might just do that......... but should i have left that big helper spring in the rear? everyone know which one that is right, it has the arch pointing toward the ground, and hooks on shit....... i took it off cause it always hits stuff.......

If it was me I probably would have left it. But that's just me.
If you do try what I suggested, don't put that leaf back in at first and see what you come up with using the other leaf pack parts.
That leaf is where your rear height went though...
I should also add that everytime you come up with a set up you want to test make sure you assemble it and drive around the block and over some bumps to get the pack to settle so you know what the true height will be. PITA but then you will know what the height will look like after the next trip too.

If you would have put lift blocks in front we would have to disown you:D
gunracer1 01-07-2002, 04:11 PM traction bar!!!!
you will need it, i added 3 leaves to my rear pack and it still wraps the springs. you can use blocks but you have to have a traction bar or you will "s" the springs for sure. mike
mud-magnet 01-07-2002, 04:22 PM thanks scott...............i feel more welcome with you around now.......:flipoff2: ......
and as for the heigth thing, i think i'm going to shorten the missing links in front, it will help my approch angle and level it out more..... i'm going to add 1 or 2 more leafs in the rear out of a chevette...... theres one ditched in the trail for the last 2 years or so so i might as well clean it up a bit.........:D
thanks for your help guys.....

tZUKnami 01-07-2002, 05:22 PM I fabricated my rear JY conversion hangers and made the mistake of not extending them foreward enough. That increased the angle of my rear shackles and caused me to loose about 2 inches. I figured this one out after swaping in some 6 leaf packs that were stiff as hell. The springs helped but not much. After re fabbing the mounts a bit more foreward it made all the difference in the world. So what do your rear shackle angles look like?
mud-magnet 01-08-2002, 02:09 PM i have stock springs in the rear with 2" lift shackles so i have a pretty good angle.......
