: Tracker 2" Suspension Lift
jarrodl 03-15-2004, 11:29 AM OK. I'll start by saying I have used the search button Several times, and I haven't found what I'm looking for.
I want to raise my 90 Tracker with a 2" body lift and 2" suspension lift. On the suspension, can I get 2" out of coil spacers? If not how much can I get from spacers? Also, does anyone have the I.D. and O.D. of the spacers? I have a hard time paying top dollar for something as simple as a donut shaped spacer. Do the ones in the front need to be thicker than the ones in the back? Does anything have to be done to the rest of the suspension(i.e. shocks or struts) when you install these?
And one other thing. What is a good material to make the spacers for a 2" body lift, and how long do the new bolts need to be. I have a hard time paying top dollar for 8 simple spacers also.

I don't think you can get 2" out of coil spacers, or, I don't think you'd want to. If you want 2" of lift, swap in coils from a 4DR tracker. It will give you about 1.5" of lift. Then, put coil spacers on top for around 2.5" of lift. Then throw on a 2" body lift for a total of 4.5". This is exactly how Rocky-Road does their 4.5" tracker lift. I've seen 4DR coils go for around $50, and the body lift from RRO is about $120, coil spacers are $80. So you're looking at around $250 for a lift which costs $750 from RRO.
I've ordered both the 2" Body Lift and Coil Spacers from RRO and, despite poor service and bad attitude from them, I am happy with their products. I wouldn't bother making BL mounts or coil spacers mounts custom if I were you, unless you want more/less height. At the price RRO offers them at, it's really not worth it. The body lift is pretty comprehensive, the mounts are not like hockey pucks or anything. Their body lift kit also takes advantage of the stock rubber mounts, you need to keep them.
jarrodl 03-15-2004, 01:42 PM Do I need the front and rear from the 4dr or are they the same length?
jarrodl 03-15-2004, 01:43 PM Also, Are the RRO spacers the same thickness for the front as the back?
Orionn 03-15-2004, 01:48 PM You need the front and rear Coils. You may also need the longer struts as well. I am not sure on that though.
you can make a spacer for the top of your strut ..rear shocks off of a 89 ford mustang are 2in longer so they will work in the rear...you should also make a spacer for your third link where it is attached to your rear end
just my .02 cents

You need both front and rear coils.

Yes, identical.
You will also need new shocks and struts.
sir.lance 03-15-2004, 05:55 PM i used a 1.5 coil spacer and my shocks and struts where fine. i would not go any more than that, no need, i would go with 4 door coil springs myself, cheaper and more effective, my g/f used ones out of a 2000 4 door.
also, a 2 inch body lift will not require any "longer bolts" because the tracker does not use bolts, they use studs that are welded into the body
so i used a 2x2 inch square steel block, took out the rubber bushings and bolted them on....
do all this, and u can fit 31x1.5 inch muds.....hope this helps

jarrodl 03-16-2004, 10:26 AM Sir Lance, is this what you mean?

hcgalvin 03-16-2004, 11:24 AM From what I have heard (and my experience) in order to get any lift with 4 door coils, you will need to use the newer 1999-2004 Tracker, V, and GV coils.
Older track/kicks (89-98) 4 door coils will not give you much, if any, lift.
Grumpy... 03-16-2004, 02:44 PM I hope more people have info to add. I have a Tracker I am about to start on with a lift and such. This is like being in a 4x4 store and a no limit credit card. I do have something to add, instead of square tube that you may have to drill, why not use boat rollers cut to size? Looks better and one can get a 24" long roller for about 15.00. 24" will get you all the blocks for a 3" lift if one would want. I am interested in the 2" body and not needing any new hardware. time to go measure.

because of durabilaty issues....rubber eventually cracks and falls apart. hockey pucks are commonly used, but most people say dont use thoes because of the same reason, i dont think a boat roller is much diff...
so use steel, it wont fall apart, besides, its only a half inch hole u need to drill, no big deal...
u cant use anything more than 2 inches in a body lift on a tracker without new hardware, the body studs are not long enough (for more than 2 inches)....only with a square block can u go more than 2 inches, just use the same method as the picture that was posted, however, with a 2 inch block u can clear the stud and put the nut back on with a 1/4 inch of thread left....i have heard rumours of body studs cracking inside the tracker bodies with big body lifts (3 inch), but i would still put at least 2 inch in to get the rocker panels off the ground, and abouve the frame, so u can slide over rocks on the frame, not the body....
hope this helps

almsot, the stud will go below the body mount enough to put the nut back on with the big metal washer and still have a safe amount of stud left below the nut, just take the upper and lower rubbers out
yes taking the upper rubber will make the body lift a BIT less than 2 full inches, but its still a lot better than having to use more bolts and trying to tighten up 2 nuts inside a 2x2 square tube....

Arizona Zuk 03-16-2004, 11:12 PM I lifted my daughter's Sidekick with 2" coil spacers from a TJ...then used rear Doetsch Tech shock #3146....
and extended the strut with 3/8 X 2" flat strap, drilled 3 holes 3" apart ...the center hole is off-set 3/8 inch for chamber.....
it has 31 X 10.50 MTR's and no body lift.
Orionn 03-17-2004, 03:33 AM Looks good Dave. :D

I am looking into doing your same setup and also adding a 2" body lift. With your setup, any troubles with too short of brakelines, steering geometry, or the rear top link on the third member? I have found some TJ spacers and need all the info I can get before purchasing them. Also on the front struts, isn't there something about flipping the top to accomidate for that lift? Any info you have would be wonderful. I'd like to get started this weekend.
whitfield 03-27-2004, 01:00 AM Looking nice Arizona Zuk
My grocery list of parts I have gatherd for my 1994 4dr Auto Kick.
(4) 4dr GV 2001 coils.
(2) Sky MFG sammy 2" body lifts
(2) 1.5" Jeep Cherokee Coil spacers
(4) 32" Pro Comp MT's
(2) 5.13:1 Thirds
If I go for 3.5" - 4" suspension then lots of issues will need to be addresssed, but should be interesteing as when I'm done the 32's will fit or the Sawzz-all will make up the difference.

Stock with the 31-15 terra tires. Yea they rub and they turn the stock IFS into a Bull Dozer :flipoff2:
shmoesmith 03-27-2004, 08:54 AM here is a BIG problem that you have to worry about on 1999+ body lifts..first, they dont use body studs like you are describing. 2 AND THE MOST SERIOUS is steering...on 1999+trackers, if you do a 2" body lift your steering column will not be long enough to connect back into the intermediate shaft coupler. Found this out the hard way as my tracker was the guinea pig for rocky roads lift kit for 1999+ trackers...we had to make a longer intermediate steering column coupler to bridge the gap. So if you are thinking of making your own, you had better take this into account. heres what mine likes like with 2"body lift, 1" coil spacers, emu struts (needed on 99+ vehicles because you WILL top out your stock struts with emu coils and spacers)and 4dr GV coils(which onlyk give about .5" of lift on 99+2drs.

33 X 12.5 BFG Muds (That do not rub)
9 inches travel up front
Still IFS Up front too!!!
13 inches travel out back
Air Lockers
5:89's R&P's
Still totally streetable
Now a few pics
