the dheapest ZF tranny i can find is 750. i was wondering what can i use for a cheaper alternative for this. i nees a granny gear and an overdrive. and i want a manual. im lost when it comes to an alternative for that....well, one that is cheaper anyway. can you help me out. thanks.

or if you know or a real real cheap OD unit that would bolt to a np435 i would also be intrested. used or whatever, as long as the OD works and isnt going to take a shit in a thousand miles.

thanks.

ok, nv4500, please expand on that if you feel so inclined. i have heard these are a chevy and dodge only. do they make one that will bolt to 300? what about a 460?

thank

They were used in chevy's and dodges but rckcrln on this board has one on his 351w w/ an Atlas t-case I think. I'm sure advanced adapters has one to bolt up the 4500 to whatever you want.

If they don't then I can't help ya much.

advanced adapters makes a kit to put the 4500 behind a ford
but if you are whining about spending 750 on a ZF
then you going to squeal like a pig when you price everything for the NV4500 :D

Depending on what you need and the price...There is always the 5 speed mazda tranny. I bought one but decided to go with the 435 because I won't need the overdrive very much. You can put any ford case behind the M5R2 for the most part. But you know how it goes....

Phil.

Oh yea...this Mazda I have I bought for 300 from a yard sayin' it didn't see too much useage...pulled from a totaled truck but now I don't want the fucker....If you get interested PM me.

you want the best of both worlds OD & granny low in which case you are looking @ a pretty late model tranny ie ZF or NV 4500 once you price the adapters & etc for the 4500 you are up higher than the 750 for your ZF.

Cheap can be good and good can be cheap but luck MUST be involved (or a good hookup:flipoff2: )

At this point there is not a readily available tranny that will give you both options for a cheap price.

If 750 is that big of a hit now then either wait & buy what you really want/need or decide what you want more OD or low and get a tranny with that option and then get the ZF when they become more plentiful in the salvage yards

750 for a ZF is not a bad price. That's really your cheapest option. Your NP435 is a great tranny. Thats what i'm running. I plan on swapin to a ZF eventually when $$ shows up.
