Lance 03-15-2004, 10:22 PM I have a set of these units, and they kick ass! By FAR the best radios for rock crawling available. We have used $1500 PCI race radios down to Radio Shack radios. And Roundeye's radios are fawkin' awesome. Full duplex = driver and spotter can talk at the same time, like on the telephone!

Rudezuk 03-23-2004, 11:07 AM These radios rock!!!!
Rock Toy 03-23-2004, 05:41 PM I was watching a bunch of competitors with them this weekend and every single one of them was screaming over the mic at their drivers. Was this happening because they were getting frustrated or because the radios were not working properly. Is there anyone in the Bay Area that has a set that I can play with?

That's funny because I noticed the same thing! After discussions with some of them, I concluded they are not used to competing with a communication tool where they don't have to scream at eachother. Have to admit, it was pretty funny though.
:)
Please ask any of the competitors that have them and I believe they will let you try them out. Not sure about anyone in the Bay Area. Roundeyes.com will refund your money within 30 days if your not happy.

If you want to come out to my shop in west sac, Ill let you try mine out...
These were awesome this weekend!! I have a new spotter this year, and this was his first event.....So he wasnt in the habbit of yelling yet......So we talked like little school girls through out the course:D
You can talk more than you normally would during a course! And hear each other clear as day!
H8monday 03-26-2004, 04:39 PM We used them for the first time at the Boulevard comp.
They worked great!
It takes a little getting used, to not having to yell over the sound of the engine.
Once you get them on and get used to how well they work, you can actually even hear your spotter over the sound of a revving engine with no problem at all.
Its really kinda strange when I was going hard to the gas on a steep climb, and Maniac was calmly speaking to me,"stay in it,..your strating to climb,..a little more, alittle,...GOOD your there back off".
Very cool product, and well worth dipping into the team budget for them.

Tommy 03-29-2004, 05:12 PM We used them this weekend at the Mountian Jam 4x4 comp. They worked great !! The only issues we had were accidently hitting the channel buttons and the belt clasp didn't want to stay on my belt. On an obstacle where I rode along for bonus points, the radio got bumped off, ran over, and a rock thrown on it for good measure. Luckily, the ground was soft. After a little brushing off, I checked to see if it was toast but it survived with only a few scratches. I should of had a better place to hook it to. I think I'm just going to keep it in a Camelback and run the headset out or glue the belt clasp down so it more of a loop instead.

Wow! So they can take a tire and still work? Glad they are working out fo you and your team. We are working on some pouches with clips on them for protection. Should be out in a couple of weeks, so please keep checking our site.

Did you debut the new digital rock talks yet?
If so, how did they work?

H8, We launched the Digi Talk System at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. Wow! The amount of competitors that were interested was amazing. The units work very well even through brick walls up to about 2 football field lengths. We are putting together different types of headsets and would like some feedback from competitors on exactly what they prefer before we debut the system.
Ideas anyone? Seems some teams want 2 helmet headsets and some want just 2 spotter headsets. Some want extra.
The kit has to come as a standard system that appeals to most. This way, we can offer the best price.
Please give feedback. We plan on launching it on the website next week.
Thank you! :p
H8monday 04-12-2004, 06:32 PM Bruce is there a website that we can go to, to view what types of headset are available?
Mike struggled a bit with the spotter type, trying to get it positioned.
I liked the helmet type, but I could think of some better improvements.
The Nascar style headsets have an inline disconnect close to the helmet so that you can easily disconnect and remove your helmet without taking the connector out of the radio.
That way you can mount the radio in a secure area, and route the wire close to the driver, but out of the way(and not have to reroute it every time you remove your helmet).
It would be nice to see what types are available.
How many channels are available with the digi talk system?

Each set of digis have their own dedicated frequency so there is no chance of interference... Way bling! :cool2:

H8, We are in the process of developing a new headset that will work with the Digital Talk System only. This headset will cover both ears and essentially go around the back of the neck for better listening of the driver. My recomendation for Mike is to possibly zip tie the headset to his helmet strap. I believe it's a safety issue if the Spotter were not able to hear out of one ear; hence the single ear piece. If you think that you need something different for your headset, we can have something custom made. Please contact me via email support@roundeyes.com for more information.
The Digi Talk System uses military specifications transmitting 0's and 1's that are encrypted. They work within the Frequency range of 902 to I believe 928 MHz, jumping frequencies in millionths of a second for an open channel that has no transmission. With the digital spread spectrum technology, interference or cross talk is not an issue.
On the other hand, the Analog Rock Talk System can and does allow some interference.
H8monday 04-14-2004, 07:42 PM Bruce,
You should definitely offer the the Rock talk system with the option of both headsets as the helmet units.
These systems would be great for motorcycle or quad riders on the trail.

We plan on launching that system called the Dirt Talk System here in a few weeks. It will include 2 helmet headsets. Other ideas before we launch it guys?
cruzila 04-19-2004, 01:48 PM I want the dirt talk. Sounds Cool :smokin:

AZFJ,
The Rock Talk System is different than what they are selling. What they offer are the same radios as ours but the distinct difference is in the headsets. The headsets that they are offering with the radios are typically used for videography. Mostly quiet locations with not much background noise.
The Rock Talk System spotter headset may look the same but our headset has a special noise cancelling microphone and a louder earpiece. The Rock Talk System also has a helmet headset with the same features as the spotters headset for the drivers use under his/her helmet. Additionally, we provide a durable case to keep the equipment enclosed. With that said, yes, The Rock Talk System is better! :)

KingOf_Pain 05-24-2004, 09:10 PM I can't wait to try my new rock talk setup tomorrow!
How do you fasten the headset inside the helmet?
At Battle of the Buttes I rolled, and had to climb out. We tilted the buggy enough to get gas into the sump. I climbed back in, and motor'd the buggy back on to it's wheels. I'm thinking I'll need to keep the radio on my person. How about I velcro the transmitter to the helmet? Good idea...

Most drivers either zip tie the headset up inside the helmet or zip tie it to the helmet straps depending on what type of helmet you have. It's your preference. The velcro does not seem to stay up inside the helmet but I have heard that velcro was sewn inside just for holding the headset.
Good luck!
