: Tire Epoxy?
KC_JoNeS 03-16-2004, 08:51 AM I have a tire that has a gash in it. It will hold air and does not leak at all, but I know that spot will be a weak point. Is there a compound to put in that crack to fill it and hopefully strengthen that area? Some sort of rubber epoxy or something?
There has to be at least a couple of products out there. Thanks
Casey

WOW!! that stuff is pricey. I guess there isnt much in the way of over the counter at Kragen crap huh?
Rescue 03-16-2004, 03:29 PM Just go to a big truck tire store and ask them to put on a sidewall patch! Some will argue it is not recommended but hey they are trying to sell you tires instead. And why would they have sidewall patches in stock? it'll cost around 20$
MDIZZLE 03-16-2004, 09:50 PM Cool Chem.com an epoxy tire and fanbelt repair kit...

Yeah, it is that one 35 that has that rip in it. It will probably be fine....but I am obsessive compulsive. If I dont attempt to fix it, then I will have trouble sleeping at night.

Please explain. I am no tire guy....what is vulcanizing?
Rescue 03-17-2004, 01:24 PM In crude terms melt rubber together. like fusion:flipoff2:
KC_JoNeS 03-17-2004, 01:27 PM Ah, well, I guess I need to be more clear. There is not a rip or cut. there is a gouge. A hunk has been ripped out roughly the size of a quarter...and maybe half the treadwall deep. I want to epoxy the hole and fill it in. There has to be some kind of glue, or rubber compound that would grab on in that hole and stay there.

As long as its something that you did see; I'd hate to have like something I missed while takin pics. He said it held air for a year+... But since its easy to fix it now as opposed to on the trail... why not ;)
mason44 03-17-2004, 07:17 PM Vulcanizing is where they take a piece of rubber and melt it over the affected area..it should only cost around $5

That might just work if they have a big enough piece of rubber.
Hey Dave, do you have those photos any more that you took for me??
And no, I knew about this gash, but I want it fixed before I mount it.

VT_Toy 03-18-2004, 07:49 PM Anybody ever tried RTV? (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) I have a similar chunk/flap I'd like to stick back closed. Doesn't leak. About the size of a dime. It's in one of my Swampers.
hpi_jeep 03-19-2004, 07:24 PM i can't get the picture of a roll of duct-tape out of my head the entire time i read this post.
is that bad? :flipoff2:
Kinda late to post in this thread, but I gouged one of my 35's pretty good when I first got them. It still held air, and the sidewall never bulged out like a huge weak spot. I kept my eye on it for a while and finally quit worrying about it.
