Ok I need to put some tires on my 87 3/4 ton burb and was thinking of keeping with the stock 235/85/16 size but now I'm debating about 255/85/16s or 285/75/16s too. I still have the stock rims which I believe are 16x6.5 and I dont have the money for any new rims unless someone knows where to get some cheapie 8 lug 16x7 or 8 steel rims? I know the 255/85s will fit a stock rim but the tire choice is pretty limited so will the 285/75s fit on a 6.5 inch rim and fit the burb? After driving/sliding around in the snow today I know I want something more aggressive and bigger than the stock tires for the future. I'm not planning on any serious off roading with it but need tires that can handle the snow and some surf fishing. They also need to be able to handle towing about 6000lbs on occasion.

255/85R16 BFG ATs or MTs.

Check around, 255/85's are a lot more common than you'd think, plus they're a LOT cheaper than 285/75's if you go with BFG's (about the same for most other brands). And I think you'll have rubbing issues with the 285's.

I thought BFG only made 255s in the MT?
I ran 255 Remmington Wide Brute RVs (comparable to the Dunlop Radial Rovers), and they were a good snow tire. If by surf fishing you mean driving on the beach, you may be happier w/the 285s, though.

Search, I started a topic with tons of opinions about tires for tow rigs.

Dharma,
I am about to put some Nitto 305s on my superduty. That means I should have some less then 15k Pirelli Scorpion for sale for rather cheep and I am in NJ.
Let me know, they are 265/75 I think..
