I tryed searching but the search function but the stupid thing doesn't want to work for me. All I want to know is if I can put 35 spline axle shafts into an 1972 Early Bronco 9"? Or am I stuck with 31 splines as an option?

You are stuck with 31 splines as max. You would need big bearing ends as well as a different case to go to 35 spline.

Phase3 of my buildup in two years planned to have a full width 40 spline 9". Front will be a 60. Figure i should be all good for 42s on my EB.
But like he says, different case.

Depends on weather or not he has a small or large bearing housing now, but you're right, more than likely its a small. But no matter what you will need a new carrier.

I have a factory case in my EB right now with 3.250 carrier bearings, just like an aftermarket carrier. Does this mean i can go to 35 spline? Its out of an old lincoln car or something:confused:

i have a 9" from the same year and truck. i was told that in order to go 35 spline, you need to replace the 3rd member. and that is all. good luck. because i am a dipshit, i only went 31 spline at the time. if i could only go back...

You'd probably want to upgrade to the heavier gusseted '76-'77 housing anyway and yes, you'll need another 3rd that uses the larger carrier bearings to accommodate the 35 spline carrier:eek: So, why not just go with a Warn 31 spline full floater it'd probably cost less than having to round up all the additional parts to assemble a 35 spline set up and probably be just as strong (or stronger:eek: ) than a 35 spline semi-floater anyway. I love mine!:D When I upgraded mine from the original 28 spline setup, I just swapped out the side gears in my 28 spline D/L and saved the cost of a new locker too ;) ........Hans
