did search, good info but just a few detailed ?

looking at a d70 with a bom of 605247-4

would anyone know if this is the hd unit,?

would I be limited with gearing? want to run 513 or lower.

locker, maybe detroit, spool? lincoln...

looked on the dana site

FORD Model 70 REAR 1985 - F-350 CHASSIS - 70U

this is the unit, is the 70U good to go, since it is 35spl, so forth?

thanks in advance

I am pretty sure the only difference between the 70u and the HD is the size of one of the pinion bearings. It also has less of a lip at the bottom of the housing.

70 HD uses Dana 80 carrier side bearings.. I have also heard that one pinion bearing is also larger, but dont know for sure. 70U is smooth and rounded on the bottom side.

The 70U is the best version of the 70 to get IMHO because of the rounded smooth bottom.

I had a 70u. You can get gears from 3.73/7.17 detroit, power lock, track lock, lock right. But NO spool. The housing is only 5/16" closer to the ground than a 60.

Good find.
