: Popped my cherry, Double-Time.
LandCroozer 03-17-2004, 01:24 AM Flop and busted Birfield.
I can't believe I've been a Cruiser owner for 3 years, and this weekend was the first for both.
Highly uneventful flop; super slo-mo. First trip with the 4" leaf lift, wasn't used to the higher center of gravity. Crawling up an off-camber hill, not very steep at all. Started to spin up against a rock. Clutched too late to keep from stalling. Had time to shift 2nd Xfer case into low and was thinking I'd try it again.
<thinking>Holding.. holding.. Am I going over? hmm..maybe. Grip wheel. Lean in. Could be going over. Yep, going over. Wait, am I.... yeah going over. <plunk, over> Dammit! Cigarettes are trapped under roll cage! Wahoo! Survived first flop! </thinking>
Yikes! I had to pulled uprite with a Scout!

LandCroozer 03-17-2004, 01:26 AM Birfield breakage: Stupid, backing over poser rock. Had front ARB on, no power steering, rock shot the wheel over to the lock. Thunk. Front right wheel locked.
Embarrassed, it took me 3 hours to change it. (Hey, it was my first and nobody else with us was a Toyota wrencher)

LandCroozer 03-17-2004, 01:29 AM What I learned: put a big damn plastic trash bag under the works BEFORE you drop the fawkin bearing in the rocks and dirt. Luckily we had brake cleaner.
Yeah, what do you want?, I packed the bearing with motor oil because we didn't have any bearing grease with us. There was enough residual grease in the works to take up the slack. It needs a rebuild anyway.

ranger 03-17-2004, 09:38 PM What is so cool about rolling your rig. I would chalk it up to lack of driving skill, I sure would brag about it..

Hey now, come on. Rolling and breaking a birf for the first time is an important part of the Toyota four wheelin' coming of age thing. It has to happen eventually. LandCroozer is an active member of this forum and I, for one, am fucking stoked for him. :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull:
TLCObsession 03-18-2004, 08:08 AM Without flaming, it looks like you were off the official trail - might be OK there, if not....

I was thinking the same thing when I first read this thread. That is not ok in most areas.
dog walker 03-18-2004, 03:52 PM Boy, you we're really getting it.... I just can't see how the heck you managed to lay it over in a spot like that! Maybe next time you'll grab a gear a bit faster.

I think it had something to do with too much of this...
