sceep 03-17-2004, 07:59 AM Lets do this!
Davidtacoma leading as he's the only one who knows where it is.
My jeep is up and running
Dads bronco is ready to rock and roll.
david recomends 35s and locked at both ends for this beast.
David, wanna set up a central meeting/fuel spot?
I need it big enough to get my semi with the rigs on the trailer in.

wheelerfreak 03-17-2004, 08:31 AM If I can finish up the flat bed I'll head out with you guys
Puffdragon 03-17-2004, 09:37 AM Gota truck to deliver, sorry wont make it this weekend. Maybe in a few weeks I can get out again.
Davidtacoma 03-17-2004, 10:10 AM This trail is Tuff. not to be taken lightly at all. we will be running the whole trail, not sure if we will run it down, ( i sorta perfer, as i have never ran the bottom 1/2. just the top half which is considered hard. You use to not beable to run the trail completely, because of the water fall in the middle, which now has a by pass. I'm not too sure where the entrance is on the bottom 1/2, but i hope to get out there satruday afternoon and scout it. If i find it we'll run it up. if not we'll run it down.
Not sure if i will taske my truck or not, i am suppose to work on it this weekend, and get it back into wheeling shape. Broken body mounts, ball joints ect... So does anyone have an extra seat just in case? Matt.....
I say lets meet at 8;00am at the kicks 66 right off of the Los Lunas exit. exit number 203. From the on ramp turn right, and go maybe 100 yards and the gas station will be on left. Yes nate it is a big trucker gas station so you can pull in =0) You could also left the tow rig there. it'll be about a 10 minute drive from the gas station to dirt road... maybe less.
I would surely say 35's dual lockers and lower gears would make the trail much more pleasureable.. and like always there is a chance for body damage.:D
Yes 8 at the kicks 66. neverran the whole trail so not sure how long it'll take. unless you sleepy heads wanta do 9

wheelerfreak 03-17-2004, 11:38 AM well, I'm a definate maybe:flipoff2: I gotta get the POS Toy done and as road legal as possible. My dad is wanting to get it out of his shop:D . I was hoping to finally see davidtacoma in action on a trail ride, but he's gonna be 2 footing it:flipoff2: LOL. It could get interesting if it's as hard as your decribing it. Sceeps even trailering his junk down, is that just in case, or are they not streetable? Just to clarify directions, it's at the Los Lunas exit 203 off I-25 south bound at 0800? Fawk, I'll have to leave my house early if I go.:crybaby:
wheelerfreak 03-17-2004, 11:43 AM I am going out there 2morrow after work, 3ish to get some trail head...hehe

Have you gone out there lately. I haven't gone in a while but the last word was that the sheriffs were running people off. It also "looked" closed last time I drove by. It had boulders placed in front of the main access road.

hard to tell..
last i was out there (~6mos ago) the BLM had fenced and signed their entire parcel of land out there. which crosses EVERY road to the top. :( so there is no entrance from old 66.
there is access however from up in 4-hills. the BLM cut a road thru their land (fenced on both sides) so that the hikers and bicyclists can now drive all the way up to the mougle field. theres a fawkin cul-de-sac up there. :( but no signage/fenceing beyond the cul-de-sac. i dunno the legality of it at the moment but it appears that its still ok to drive to the top from the mogule field cul-de-sac.

wheelerfreak 03-17-2004, 12:40 PM Jealous? well, since I always go wheeling by myself...yes:D
Sceep, I've never accessed it from four hills. I think I know where you're talking about though. I've seen that entrance on the way up.
sceep 03-18-2004, 07:26 AM bronc is ready . ;)
see ya early-30 sun. morning.http://www.dana60.com/sceep/bronco/cage1.jpg
sceep 03-18-2004, 08:07 AM david..
I have a guy that wants to try and catch up to us later in the day. he wont be wheeling but hiking.
Is it possible to get accurate enough directions to get him out there on his own?
How long is the trail once we get to it?
Did you go scope it again last night? hows it lookin?
Nate
Davidtacoma 03-18-2004, 10:15 AM Ididn't make it last night, but am goning 2day for sure, i even came to work early so i can bail after lunch. Does your buddy have a gps? i can get cordinates 2day... If not i'll take paper and a pen and make like 100% accruate map, and then scan it at work 2morrow and post it to you..... or something... sounds good? I beleive the trail is only like a mile or so long. I'm sure we could run it in 4 hours or so if hurried, but i say about 6-8 hours should be good.
No matterwhat i can't run my truck on it. I have 4 broken body mounts i was looking last night, and need to take off the body lift and fix the mounts before i wheel agian....LOL gotta redill the holes in the rear bumper 2" so i can lower it now....lol damn body lifts:D

yeah call more people. we need more =0) if we can't get a group maybe we can wait a few weeks till i can make it and get more postive answer from people..... unless you and your pops don't mind wheeling alone...lol

wheelerfreak 03-19-2004, 06:52 AM I'm out for sure now. I had been thinking of going and trying to get my junk done in time and I forgot I have to go pickup the new rear axle for my Jeep on Sunday. I forgot all about it, doh! Have fun and don't roll or break anything too important.
Davidtacoma 03-19-2004, 08:43 AM Nate.. your going to kill me...LOL nah i didn't make it out there so i didn't plot a map.
I can get you buddy started. ZGo west on hidh way 6 for like 14 miles, then turn the 1st left right after you cross the Rio Puerco. Cross the train tracks, and drive up to the gate, go thought the gate... one on the right is never locked. Take the dirt road for a mile or so. take hte 1st right. it is a 2 track road, along a fence line. Take this road till it T's the go left.... (we'll turn off some where between here and the 1st arro to head up to the lower trail head, a buddy is going ot show us where it is because he will mountian bike itas we run it this weekend, and he's been there number of times)
OK for your buddy if he wants to go to the top and start hiking down... Turn into the 1st arro, and go stait after like 100 yards it tuns into a dirt road.. stay left....Keep takeing this road, and at all the 1st Y go right.... after a long time it'll seem lol ya'll coem across some springs... keep folloing the road the ntake a right this road is pretty strait for a couble of miles then take the 1st right....after like a mileor o take the 1st left... ya'll pass an OLD brick lookin house. Take this road to the fence, at the fencer turn right... this road take you'll pass a watering tank and suck after a mile or so, then you come up to a crowal looking thins with e windmill, had has fallin. drive into the croawl and out on a 2 track road on the north end. basically turn left into the crowal, and then turn right and head out of it. Follow the 2 track fro miole or so.. maybe longer more like 2 miles, untiol you drop in to the Arro. Start heading down and after like 1/4 of a mile ya'll hit the 1st water fall...... you can drive down it, because of the by pass, and park at the next one and start hiking.... it'll be a long hike to the bottom =0)
So Nates thats the best i can do right now

see ya early-0-clock sunday! :bounce:
Nate
Hutchew 03-19-2004, 09:55 PM Somebody tell Sceep that yes, you can park right at the turnoff next to the RR tracks, or better yet, cross over the tracks and turn left onto the RR right-of-way. Just park as far from the tracks as possible so the RR Special agents don't come around. I picked up a train wreck there couple of years ago, and we leveled it all out when we left.
I was gonna take my family riding 4-wheelers this weekend up to Scholle Canyon, but may tag along with ya'll if you don't mind. Would like to check out Sceep's dad's rig, getting ready to start my 70 bronc in another month or so. Looking for ideas.
David, contractor just pulled my permits to build a 40x60x16 shop in the backyard. Then you get to see the bronc I've had for 10 years (not that it's anything great). They should pour concrete week after next early. That'll be cool!
sceep 03-22-2004, 06:12 AM great day guys,
Thanks for takin us out david. Next time maybe we can find the real trail. :flipoff2:

Hutchew 03-22-2004, 06:52 AM Watch your language, pottymouth!:D
LOL, that was a blast guys. Great to meet all of you, too. Thanks for letting us tag along on the 4-wheelers. Next time I'll take my XJ, if the bronco isn't done.

you misses a good one buddy. Nate flopped his heep, his dad got miner damage and brandon well does what he does best, break lights... and this time taylor helped....LOL
-David
sceep 03-22-2004, 08:06 AM no we never got on the real "jaws". Apparently david got some missinformation from someone that it was passable all the way through now, instead of being a down and back trail.
well, we decided it run it uphill and do the official "jaws" last.
about a mile up the canyon we hit a dead end. 12' tall, 12' inverted, box canyon. no way up or around.
so jaw is OFFICIALLY only runable as a down and back trail.
the new "lower jaws" has alot of potential though. good for mildly built rigs with a few reall fun spots for the overbuilt.
I flopped the jeep pretty good once, trashed a fender, tore my top. Broke a hub, trashed a rim.
dad almost flopped the bronco on a silly line i was makin him try. 3 person counterweight kept it rubber side down though.
Taylor got my jeep balanced on the belly pan... with 3 tires sitting 2-3' in the air. had to winch him off that. then he proceded to drive my drivers fender thru brandons taillight because "you're jeep has too much tourqe with this auto..... I couldn't stop it"
all in all great day.
you missed out :p
Brandons lil truck did well. needs some gears in a bad way though.. 'eu de clutch gets old after a while.
wheelerfreak 03-22-2004, 08:29 AM Sounds like you guys had fun then. We're still waiting on pics though! I've seen Brandon beat on his truck, so I can't imagine he'd be too pissed about a tail light. I did finally get my mall wheeler done though, so maybe I'll go next time if I'm not working. When you get a chance I need to take it back up to your place and get some more tubing put in over the bed of my Toy.
