read the post on chevy springs. you can run dual shackles in the rear and get away w/o welding on a new rear hangar.

You need to run a new spring hanger. But the shackle hanger doesn't move. dumbkid (:D) , go check out the sticky post wrench has at the top of the forum, and see how long his first shackles are (the ones that bolt to the shackle hanger, not to the spring eye)

The first shackle (in a double-shackle setup) lays flat against the frame, so you need enough frame left behind the hanger for that shackle to be supported...plus you need to remember that the second shackle will swing back as the spring compresses.

ok i can see that the first shackle in a double shackle system is about 4" long or so and my second shackle is about 6" long give or take and 1" what i was wondering is if some one has done this becous once i cut it is realy hard to put it back i dont heve my 63" or i would do that first i just have the welder here and a day off to cut it off but i dont want to cut to much but i also dont want to half to recut later when i find out that i could have cut more off but all good points so if i can add and i never said i could i should leave about 10: of frame behind the stock rear spring hanger am i close with this and if a do a boomer ang shackle like my dad has on his zuki i could make one shackle to do bolth jobs yes or no im new to building toys and would like some in put wether it is construtive or not

I have an 83 longbed that I bobbed 12 3/4. I chose this length so I could use a camper shell or lumber rack from an 84 - 88 shortbed (same length). Cutting this much, I only had to take a inch and a half or so off of the frame towards the bottom (the cut was diagonal). Had I chosen to cut off the rear valance, I would not have had to cut any off the frame.

Glad I could help..

I might add that even with the little trimming I did, it still looks like theres room for a double shackle to rest on the frame (there's still enough left). But if I were to fully compress the spring and flatten out both of the shackles, the valance might get pinched a little. I also have plans to someday go to the 63 inch chevy springs too.

I have pix at home and will try and post a couple tonight when I get home, if I have enough time.

dumbkid (it's fun actually getting to call someone that :D):

Glad you found out what you needed... if you want to, go ahead and email me the pics Slick sent ya, I can throw 'em on my server and post them to the BB.

Also (please don't get upset about this) try and take the time to puncutate your posts... It's fine if you are only writing 1 or 2 lines, but when we're reading a paragraph from you, it takes a minute to 'decode' the text, since it's one long run-on.

By no means does PBB require prefect grammar, but try and stick a period in there once in a while. :)

Right on.. I sent ya another one so you can see what the finished bed length looks like after it's welded back together. If I had it to do over, I'd still cut it to this length. I think it looks just like a shortbed with the rear axle moved back and there's still plenty of usable space.

I have chevy's on mine and I bobbed my 82 long bed 19 3/4 and it looks realy good after I made or boxed in the frame with a 2x3" square tubing. It looks like a bumper an turned out better than I thought. Its what ever you want though.

i have an 84 long bed and bobbed it 15" and the tailgate sits about flush with the shackles. stock suspesnsion set-up. the best mod that i have done so far. and it is on the cheap side. i have about 2" left one the end of the frame. http://www.geocities.com/mobil1syn/images/orangeframe_web.jpg
