Ive almost got this thing off the jack stands. Im ordering my crossover steering today.

I need some help with my rear driveshaft. The front has to be lengthened, so im ok on the 2 inch extended slip yoke there.

Myquestion is this. My rear axle is moved back 1.5 inches with the cj springs. I moved my t case back 4 inches to accomidate the toyota engine/tranny. With the combination of the spoa and the rear axle going back 1.5 inches, I was able to bolt the stock rear drive shaft back in, and ive got about 1.5 inches of splines showing before the drive line bottoms out on compression.

Here are my questions. 1st, will the 2 inch extended slip yokes be enough with the flex im expecting. Ive got rears up front with cj's in the back, and 5/10 breeze expanding shackles. My new crossmember goes over the front drive line, so I have no worries about driveshaft contact with it.

2nd, with my stock length rear drive shaft going back in, with no spacers, I have read that the 2 inch slip yoke may increase drive shaft length to much and cause it to bottom out. If this is the case, couldnt I just shorten the shaft to allow for the longer slip yoke. The overall length of the rear driveshaft would remain the same, and it would allow for the 2 inch slip yoke, and if I break, I can still bolt a stock rear shaft back in its place until I repair the damaged shaft. On the front its going to have to be lengthened anyway, so their will be no problems fitting the extended slip yoke.

Do you guys see any problems with my thinking on this? With my rear shaft bolting in with no spacers, and having 1 inch of splines showing, do I even need a rear extended slip yoke?

Thanks for the help. My jack stand queen is about read to step down.

If all you have is an inch showing should be all right. I have about the same set up except I run 4-8 style, axles are moved about 1.5 back and about 1.5 forward I run the spacers and have had no problems just little vibe at low speed but mine is not streetable glorified trailer queen. although I would like get cv shafts and get rid of the spacers to cure vibe:D

My zuk is going to be about 75% onroad, but when I do go offroad with it, I want to go where ever I want. Im hoping I can keep the vibes to a minimum, if not eliminate them completely. That will probably take a cv driveline from what Ive read, but thats not affordable.

I may still be confused on what the purpose of the extended slip yoke is intended for. I had thought that it was needed due to the amount of length needed when a vehicle flexed. I had also read that its used in the place of the spacers to get the u joints further apart, and therefore lessening the bind on them. With my stock driveline going back at stock length with no spacers in the rear, your thinking I wont need a the extended slip yoke?

Thanks again,
Jim

The ext. slip yoke or spacers are just less expensive ways to
extend the drive shaft without having to have the drive shaft
taken in to be lengthend has nothing to do with lessining angle
moving your axles farther from pnt (a) to pnr (b) is where you get lessor angle I would assume that you would have to do 1 of the 3 spacers, slip yoke, or have your shafts lengthend, only true
way to tell is to cycle your suspension and measure what you have in both extended and compressed keep in mind pinion angle at full extension if it is to drastic of an angle then i would rotate
pinions to point at case and go cv style shaft you can get away
with a toyata cv shaft cut down I do believe Hope this helps

You can have a 10 inch slip yoke but if you only have 3 inches of spline it won't get you anything but 3 inches of spline. The beauty of a slip yoke is that the angles are not worsened by the spacers because the length made up by them comes from between the two ends of the shaft instead of at the ends. Spacers increase the operating angle while giving you the length that you need. Slip yokes give you that extra length without making your angles worse. So, if you only have an inch showing you should be fine but the only way to see is cycle the suspension to verify. If you don't need the length and have enough spline, leave it as is. You will be much happier. Just my .02
