Well my 87 rrc is.
Just showed up this last week. Its an odd shake that is inconsistant.
Seems to only show up, when I let off the throttle, and even then I can't always reproduce it. Its enough to make me concerned.
Haven't noticed happen under 40 mph.
I've taken all the wheels off, to make sure there isn't some odd piece of mud/dirt cakes somewhere to throw things off. All wheel wieghts are present and accounted for.
I've Jacked up all four corners and there is no play in the wheels, or steering linkage.
Feels like an out of balance wheel, but I'm pretty confindent that I've eliminated that as an option.
Only other thing I can think it could be is an alignment issue:confused: , or a tire has flat spotted or scalloped or something on an outer/inner edge. Seems like its occuring in the front, and its transfering through the steering wheel.
I'll rotate the front tires to the back on my next day off.

Not many. Poly material too.(didn't buy/install them, came with the truck at purchase). I knew some one would say that.
Paul,
orignal universal?....it could easily be a very old one...probably not the original. The truck has 200k. Anything is possible.

swivel pins??? your shimmy damper may be bad too? or just masking the swivel issue? hmm! wasn't there a looong thread about thsi on d-90 list couple years ago...
sounds like my vibration couple years ago...after checking everything twice and replacing many things inclucing bearings, I found that one of the bolts on teh front drive-shaft to transfer case was little loose!!! had kept checking but apparently that one always ended up on top and never noticed? (idiot!) :D
but if it's transferred to steering I'd definately look at the swivel pins. series guys do, but most coiler guys just assume all must be fine in there for some reason...think you even test them with the fishing scale like a series too don't you? can't recall...rad teh dang manuals, mine are all piled up at home, so can't help...

Poly bushes suck for panhard rod bushes. Does it shake worse when coming to an abrupt stop from highway speeds?

Pendy,
Not sure I ever want to find out what it does on an abrubt stop from highway speeds.
Haven't noticed it when stopping.
It goes as quickly as it comes.
Drove the rover all day yesterday, and it didn't do it once....so I don't even know anymore.
Odd:confused:

OK, let's see how complicated we can make this-:flipoff2:
Universal joints are a scheduled service item, cheap an realatively easy to swap-yet for some reason, Rover owners seem to think they should last FOREVER.
Seth, go to your local parts house, chase down some real 'Merican universals, slap 'em in and IF that doesn't do the trick, look harder.
I just did a diff swap 'cause the owner was certain that was the problem. As I was putting the driveshaft back, I noticed the slop in the driveshaft... It was loose on the transfer case and only two of the eight cups had rollers remaining.
Go replace those parts and don't come back whining until you have.
And, in the unlikely event this isn't the culprit:flipoff2: you needed them anyway:flipoff2:
