Hey all,

I've been reassembling my transfer case, and I put the idler gear in place, I put the spacer in the middle and a shim pack on each side and the bearings are seated nicely against the side of the case, however, the idler gear itself has some play in it, I can slide the whole thing forwards and backwards, I know it is assembled correctly on the inside and the only way I see eliminating the play would be to add a shim on the ends of the bearings. So this makes me think that this play is supposed to be there.

Just checkin with the experts...

BTW, Direct Mount NP205 out of a 79 Ford.

Thanks in advance
TJ

How much play do you have? Endplay on the idler gear should be .002" MAX. If you have more than that, adjust using shims.
Also.. torque the idler shaft locknut to 200 lb-ft.
