: Narrow rims and big tires

I have a set of 36" tires for 16.5 rims that say on them to use 9.75" wide rims. Do I have to use the wide rims? I have to take a come-along around the tire to get it to seat on the rim after a flat. I think 8" wide rims would be better and wouldn't get beat up so much either. Also I've heard rumors of running 44s on Hummer rims which are only 8.75" wide. 44's require 12" rims. Wouldn't narrow rims hold the bead on better a low pressure?

Yes. The narrower the wheel the more pressure it puts on the bead. This is only to a point though, you dont want to throw a 16" tsl on a 6 or 7" rim :D
