: YJ anti-wrap bar, driver or passenger side?
Road Head 03-23-2004, 09:12 AM It sure will fit on the driver side, but on the passenger side, the exhaust is in the way. I could move the exhaust, but I like it where it is. Are there any issues with running it on the driver side as opposed to the passenger side? BTW, I have the MORE anti-wrap bar.
P&T Jeeps 03-23-2004, 09:28 AM I see more of the anti-wrap bars on the driver side just b/c of clearance issues. personally, I'd get it as close to the center as you can...
Blatant 03-23-2004, 09:30 AM Driver side as close to the center of the diff as you can get it.

I understand close to center, but why driver?
tunedportcj5 03-23-2004, 09:48 AM Passenger side!
Especially if you are running a V8.. If you have it on the drivers side, it will want to lift the drivers side up since the torque of the motor is already pushing the axle down. Yes, obviously put it as close to center as possible, and the longer link you have... the less it will want to lift.
As noted above, sometimes you can't help to put it on the drivers side, there is not a lot of room under a Jeep! :D

Haha, you arent kidding!
Thanks a bunch, guys. I guess I will go with driver side, as close to the pumpkin as I can get it. Heck, something is better than nothing. I just dont want my brand new 7 leaf JC Whitney waggy's to look like a giant "S" :)
Blatant 03-23-2004, 12:36 PM Why driver? Because, given the routing of most exhausts, he doesn't have any other choice. As someone said, ain't much room to work under there! Regardless, it should be as close to the center line of the diff as possible. My last one paralleled the driveline, maybe 3 inches to the left side.

Keith Strong 03-23-2004, 02:45 PM Why not off the top of the pumpkin running above the driveshaft?

It is as comp tested as you can get. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/gallery/stgeorge_2004_tech/afq)
gumbojeepyj 03-23-2004, 11:21 PM that's kinda similar to the bars some of the drag guys use.... i need a bar pretty bad.... all my springs look like shit but i could use one to prevent blowing any more d-shafts up.

Yea, Durham used to run those all the time, never had a problem!
Looks like a tractor link?

I like the looks of that
HybridPOS 03-24-2004, 09:34 AM would you put one on each side with that design? I have never seen one on top of the axle like that, but I have seen similar set ups underneath the axle...... which I wouldn't do obviously.
Seems like it might bind or not work as well as a ladder bar, such as the Sams Off Road. I see that the holes are slotted to allow for the upward travel of the axle, but it seems that it would keep it for doing its job of keep the wrap down, or it would not allow the axle to move down if you set it up for bottoming out on the rear end of that hole, causing the binding.

In loking at the forces involved with a anti-wrap bar, this one, altough it is used in comp, seems to use the front half of the leaf spring as the other link to keep the axle from twisting.

true, the front half of the leaf will fatigue quick w/ this setup...
sodaboyYJ 03-24-2004, 11:16 AM If yer gonna run the single bar above the spring like in the pic, why not just use a piece of chain? I have a buddy with a 383 powered CJ-5 and he uses chains, one per side, and it works trick! He can pull the front tires off the ground w/o wrap problems.
Yer best to mount the Sams style bar on the pass. side and be prepaired for odd handeling. When you hit the gas yer junk will lift and then dive when you left off.
It gets annoying!

edit....
Another thing about those bars. The rig is sitting on level ground at rest, yet the slot for the bars to travel back looks to be at its limit. The pinion must want to point at the ground when the rigs bounces.
Toddy 03-24-2004, 02:04 PM Be very careful with the single bar and really soft springs. We got put out at the first EROCC last year because of one. bent the springs and took out the rear yoke when the u-joint boundup. The front part of the spring takes all teh force with this setup.
We added a lower link to the single bar and it held up tough. Took some 3 feet bounces at Attica with no problems.
I will post pics when we put that same bar on my brothers Jeep soon.
