What is a 67 fj45 worth? it has a 327, later model 4 speed, and transfer case, power steering, aux fuel tank, older warn winch. It needs some work, body work and paint.

Most people cringe at these valuation questions, but I consider them a challenge, I'm constantly monitoring the Cruiser (especially earlier/exotic) market, and I'll give it a stab:

The FJ45 market does not parallel the FJ40 market; these vehicles are very rare and most Cruiserheads I know would *love* one, but at the same time, they can be a challenge to own, hold little historical value, and almost every high quality restoration of one is valued at much less than the cost of the restoration.

That said, the important questions are:

1. What is the condition of the cab?
2. What is the condition of the bed?
3. Are the key (FJ45-specific) components present and in what condition?
4. What does the tailgate (if it's an FJ45LWB, and a 1967 *should* be) look like?

The answer to these questions determines the value of an FJ45 pickup. The drivetrain adds very little value to them, unless the drivetrain itself has intrinsic value (for example, a run-of-the-mill junkyard swap or even a stock F in original condition don't really add much, but a 1HDT swap would).

Without looking at the truck (and determining, for example, which P/S setup it has and whether it was properly done), I hesitate to give you a particular value, but assuming the truck doesn't have much rust and that all the key components are there and in good condition, you're looking at $2,500-$4,500 depending on geographical location and overall condition of the vehicle.

The above is based on MY personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt (or two)!:)

Note: my comment above refers to FJ45 PICKUPS; I just reread your post and realized that you could have been referring to a 1967 FJ45 WAGON, at which point I difer to Rick D., who is *much* more knowledgeable than I am on these rare trucks.

Also, I forgot to mention. Older Warns are cool winches but they add very little to the value of the vehicle...

i got my 1965 fj45 lwb pickup last february in Garberville (up north along the coast sorta-for those tat dont know) for $4000..it has no major body rot, just 2 bubbles on the hardtop about the size of quarters..original engine tranny tcase, tailgate is there but kinda bent out and is not flat anymore but you cant tell unless you get up close..interior is in pretty good condition, wiring works, drives great (for a 37 year old cruiser that has at least 200K miles on it (assuming-it started in canada (said the old owner, but no full floater, so i dont konw about that) then went to nevada as a farm truck for a long time then came to california and resided in garberville for many years)...i thought $4000 was a really good deal and jumped at the chance to buy it...it has add a leafs in the springs and 33" pizza cutters on factory rims (not that that matters)...it has a crack over the pass. side rear wheelwell from too much weight being put on it i think (used to have hay bail racks on the sides while in nevada)..yeah depending on your location and condition i'd say the same as 60 seriesguy or a little more (i know i'd want to get more for mine as they are soooo desired)...if this is a wagon, i dont know for price, i seem to see more wagons than pickups..i heard of one guy around my house who paid 12 grand i think for one then paid BTB to build it for him and dumped another fortune into it (around 70 grand or so i recall)

All I have to say for the rarity of the long wheel base US delivered 1960's models is ...look at page 142 or the blue Land Cruiser history book.

photo of a single delivery at Long Beach. I can make out about 6 hard tops, and otherwise it looks like a sea of tan lwb's w/ tops knocked down in the beds.

wagons are most certainly rarer, period. price range is $1,000-$6,000 on average for a 45 "LV". I have a list of 123 of them, and not all of those will ever make it back on the road. At best, 40 of those 123 are registered at anyone time.

swb removable tops are rarest truck. swb fixed tops are most worthless (unless in high heels you stand 5'6"). a lwb tail gate (+ hardware), bed, hard top (and hardware), headache bar, and frame are unobtainium. If these are in poor condition or missing, the truck looses 50%-80% of value.

(FYI, if tail gate handle on 45 wagon is cracked, your fawked!)

Thanks for the response, it is a pickup not a wagon. The truck is in overall good condition with no rust, it just shows it's age. I just don't know if i need another project i have a 67 45lwb and a 64swb with removable hard top and i just picked up a hj47 troopie Thanks again

I cant believe that Landcruiser, Pick-ups are rare in America. Here in Australia they are as common as SWB FJ/BJ40. They are usually worth a bit more than a SWB but not that much.

You guys in the US have it tough. Later model BJ42 cruisers come with disc brake front ends standard and power steering!! Why do people continue to play with the older LC's? No full floating hubs in the rear, three speed should i go on.............

Hey, you have to work with what ya' got :flipoff2:

The Cruiser gods smile upon the magical land of Oz, but have been fickle to us.

The all-drum, 3spd, F Cruisers do suck relative to their modern brethren, but they still make a decent platform to build on.

But we are allowed to own guns to defend said rare Cruisers!
:D :D

Seriously, when I moved to the US from Venezuela I too was amazed at the rarity of Land Cruisers, especially work vehicles. Almost no 45 series, NO 75 series. But after living here for a while, I've come to understand why. The FJ45 was a monumental failure in the US, in all of its forms. It never sold well, many of them languished at Toyota dealers for so long that they had to be *rebadged* for the following year! The reason? Mostly one of culture. In the country with the best and biggest highway system in the world, the developed country with the cheapest gasoline prices, the land of the obsession with raw hosepower, torque figures, load capacity and sheer size, and a country where the pursuit of comfort is a part of the culture, the FJ45 in its various forms was just ill-suited. Smallish (especially when compared to their US-built counterparts), underpowered, spartan and overpriced, they just couldn't compete. Heck, the truck's interior dimensions were too small for the average American, I'm only 6' tall and I have a hard time getting comfortable behind the wheel of an FJ45 pickup.

Besides, the rugged qualities that made the FJ45 so appealing in Australia, South America and Africa were neutralized in the US.

Of course, I'd love to have an FJ45 LWB pickup and I'm constantly in the lookout for a good deal. But I am a Cruiserhead and these trucks are 30+ years old, there is a logical appeal. Back when they were new, they didn't/couldn't sell, and that's why Toyota stopped importing them and never imported the 75 series.

The truck is one of the nicest I've ever seen, definitely made my TOP TEN TLC's of all times. It was built by TLC in Van Nuys for a client and sports a crate Vortec V8 and a complete frame off. Here's another one that shows a little bit of the interior!

And one more of the door panel detail. By the way, the pod you can see under the center of the dash was added because the truck has A/C and a nice stereo, but they didn't want to hack away at the dash. Another neat detail is the auto transmission shifter that simulates a manual shifter!

Last one, this is from the rear. I tell you, the truck is a work of art, I've always thought FJ45 wagons were the ultimate classic Land Cruiser, but it wasn't until I saw this one that I really got the urge to own one...

Cheers!

The FJ45 wagon in Henry's pic was one (I think) that Jonathan had redone about two years ago with a SB Chevy, Toyota 4spd etc. It was around the shop for a bit and then went under the knife again for the vortec. They do amazing work, as you can see. That truck is the same (I think) as the one in the FJ45 wagon desc. on their website.

Hey guys, those of you involved with the FJ45 run, please make sure you keep us at TT posted on potential dates and the likes, while Henry Brimmer is the only one that owns and wheels an FJ45, we'll definitely try to get at least someone from the staff to attend if we can plan in advance (expenses come out of our own pockets), this is one historical event that needs feature coverage! In fact, stay tuned to TT, we got excellent coverage of the 2001 "Running of the Pigs" coming up soon!

hey everybody!
i met the new owner of that georgeous 45 wagon on friday in palo alto and he's down for the 45 run!!!!
that means we have at least 5 wagons and about a dozen pickups now. i will keep everybody updated as soon as we find a suitable location for the event. the emphasis will be on 45's, not on wheeling. some of the owners do not want to put their rigs (and super expensive paintjobs, restorations) in jeopardy. so we'll take an easy trail and hang out for a few days around a campfire and talk cruisers.
anybody have any ideas? we're thinking possibly somewhere in the mendocino national forrest (about 2 hours north-west of san francisco). bassey falls has a couple of drop offs that would claim a wagon or two for sure so it's pretty much out of the question. we've thought about hollister also, but that's a little too public for me. i think we'll put together a list of possible destinations and then get everybodies input on them. georg :D
