Yet ANOTHER reason for my upcoming SAS. I bent the snot out of these brackets a while back and finally got the pics I took a while back developed.

Look for the tab with 2 smaller bolts about 1" apart... they're bent in & back about 30 degrees. It stopped bending when the passengers side tab bottomed against the diff. It's really hard to see in these pics, but it's there.

Anyone want to buy a *slightly used* IFS lift?

Not only have I bent that, but that bracket you see in this last pic that holds the diff to the dropped mount, I was under my truck the other day and I have broken that bracket..

Good thing the SAs is almost underway.... I think the IFS is about to fall off... :D

I know not everyone can afford, or wants to do a solid axle swap (I did one on my truck) but for several years prior to that, I wheeled with 33s, detroits, 4" IFS lift and a dual crawler. Except for bending idler arms and breaking cv shafts, the truck did rather well.

So, here's the reason for my reply. This is a good picture to try to explain what I once saw on a 4" lifted IFS truck. A guy named Ken I believe, from Canada, (met him at Moab) put a plate on the back side of all those brackets. It had a big hole for the 3rd member and drive shaft to come through, and and smaller holes for all the bolts you see in the picture to come through. It was very well made, very clean, and very strong. He boxed in the bottom cross member and put sleeves on the ends so he could run bolts all the way through it.

On the front side, he build an idler arm that attached to the tie rod (I guess that's what it's called on the IFS) to keep it from moving up and down, and he said he'd never bent the original foctory idler arm since. It was a clean setup, and I wish I'd taken some pics, but if you run an IFS lift, and are happy with it, but want more rigidity out of the setup, the above description will do the trick.

I broke and bent everything described in this post, and snapped the center steering link prior to my SAS. The rign and pinion was the last straw. It was the trailmaster 4" lift. I've seen several rigs with tube braces, securing the lower lift brackets to the frame. I know that they come with the superlift kit and I think that Downey offers a set as well.

ProComp Stage 2 also has them. Seen them bent all to crap on Terry Johnson's long bed, extra cab, rock trail truck :(.

Yet bent mine too.... Allot of people don't know that Procomp has a lifetime warranty on those parts.. I got 1 of those Tube braces from the Stage 2 kit free, just phone em up and tell em what ya bent...

They seem to bend really easy around rocks.... I was laughing at Terry's untill I got off the con and noticed mine were the same way...

That is another reason why suspension drop down brackets suck!

I know when I cut my IFs off both were BENT and 1 was "cracking" They both were full of mudd too! I considered them "Rut leveling devices"....:D  :flipoff2:

I remember the old IFS days.......:mad2:
