: I can get a J-4000 for $300.00, would you?
45/70 01-07-2002, 08:58 PM I've been looking for donor axles and waggies to part out, I ran accross this 1972 J-4000 for $300.00. It doesn't run (big suprise) but it has a Dana 60 rear, with 5 (five) bolt wheel pattern, of course Dana 44 front to match. It's an automatic, I haven't crawled under to see what AT or T-case yet?
My delema is, should I buy it and part it out? Is it rare and possibly worth $$ to someone? I hate to ruin something that's worth restoring, even if not by me.
The other rig I found is a 1978 waggy that has a blown 360, I ruled this one out based on the non-flat top knuckles and offset rear and quadratrac t-case, this one was only $200.00. I've got a couple others to look at this weekend, but I thought I'd better ask about the J-4000 before someone else gets it...
Steve N 01-07-2002, 09:13 PM In a word, yes I would. Let's see '74 you say huh? I'm not sure it might even be a 35 spline
45/70 01-07-2002, 09:39 PM Pretty sure it's either a '72 or '73, definately not '74. I have to go back over in the daylight, I didn't have a flashlight. I could tell that the rear is Dana 60 and Centered and that the emblem on the front fender said V8 and could see the shifter on the column, but thats about as far as I got.
Any Idea about what the WMS measurements would be on a FS pickup, I also didn't take a tape...
I'd love to have the parts, but just don't want more junk that I can't sell....
get it:D i would, but then again i passed up a few $50 waggoneers that ran
pmaddy 01-07-2002, 10:01 PM I would buy it in a heartbeat. Even if you end up parting it out you arn't going to take a loss. Sounds like a good deal to me.
45/70 01-07-2002, 10:09 PM Yeah, it's pretty much consuming all my thoughts...the only factor that really eats me is that I don't have a car hauler, so when I part something out, I chop up what I don't sell and haul it to salvage in my pickup. I just didn't want to be responsible for destroying a national treasure...waggies I've done with no guilt, even nice ones, but I just wasn't sure about this one.
Anyone have a guess as to what's under the hood, or if it'll have closed or open knuckles and or disc brakes? I will find out this weekend, but if any of you know for sure, it might save me a drive and a lot of research on the boards...
45/70 01-07-2002, 10:54 PM I went to the "ifsja" website and answered my own question, the fronts were closed knuckle untill 1974, so there is at least a couple hundred pounds of junk that I wouldn't be able to get rid of...just in the front axle.
So now I ask, is it still worth $300.00 for a TH400, D20 and a Dana 60 centered, five bolt, rear? Thats probably all that would be usefull, I've never seen another FSJ pickup around here, driving. So there isn't really a market for the body...

Id say 300 is a stretch. The d60 is worth maybe 200 if its the 35spline. Then all you have left is a th400 that might work and a 50 dollar d20. I have a friend that parts those and waggys all the time and he sits on the bodies for ever. I do see alot of FSJ pickups running around here in tacoma puyallup area though.

Au contraire mon fraire ... well not a big market, but personally I am hunting a truck bed and frame. Is the bed in decent shape? Is it a 6, 7, or 8 foot bed? Title maybe? Email me or post here. THANKS  Keith
