I know some info on building stroker motors but My question is who knows what would work good in the rocks I was thinking 360 bore with 401 crank also what about doing a 401 crank in a 304 block would that work The reason for that is the advantage of cooling. The other motor I have is an AMC 290 what do you think about those.

a 360 with a 401 crank is like a chevy 383 but a 385. U need the cran, rods and custom pistons. Dependingont he block you will need to notch the lower sleave for the crank and longer stroke.

a 304 you would need to notch the bores at least .060-.090 for clearence. It can be done, and there are guys running the combo. At some point when I get my 401 built I am going to build a 385.

And the 290.... well that block is is not all that strong. The main webbing is really thin and probably would not hold up to well to a stroker type build. 290s have a really short stroke, and share the same crank with a 343. I think the 290 cranks were steel... I think. I would have to reference my AMC manual on that one.

I think what RJ is doing is probably he best combo- 360 block and 401 or 390 crank. Yields a great rod ratio and should be a real torque monster. Jsut be careful with tuning because strokers are tend to be a little ping happy.
