: Factory one ton toyotas
Lowtorious 01-07-2002, 09:26 PM I searched and because the searcher won't find these: 'one' and 'ton' because of that 4 word length length, I'm here.
With that said:
What's the deal with one ton toyota p/u?
I've seen an older one, it look liked a 2wd LB, no asthetic differences except for the one ton painted along the bottom of the tail gate
Years offered? Transmissions?
axles?
All the good stuff....
chers

im pretty sure the only differance is the number of leaves in the rear pack.
out here it is sold as a primary industry model.

liveaxle 01-08-2002, 12:16 AM And a full-floating rear end.
Never seen a full floater in a pickup of any form in toyota exept l/cruisers or dyna light trucks?
Someone prob just added the sticker;)
Bad Karma 01-08-2002, 04:22 AM I used an '85 one for an EFI swap. Only difference I saw was the front bumper has a steel tube behind it for extra strength. Oh, it also uses a 4WD-type 8" differential. Other than that, it seems to be a regular 2WD pickup.
Hey Bad Karma
Didnt all your 2wd P/U have 4wd style centres?
All ours in AUS ran the same size centres just different ratios we allso have the same centres in toy hiace vans(dont know if you got the vans).
You can see the full floater on all of the "UHAUL" box trucks, toyota that is...
It is a dually setup which I don't know if it is on the "1 ton" truck.

The 2WD's here have 7.5" diffs, I think. I'm sure they are different than the 4WD's, maybe someone more knowledgeable will confirm this.......:)
1 ton axles are fully floating and use a V6 diff.
You find them in small motor homes and some work trucks.
However, they have a large 6 lug pattern, not the same 6 lug pattern found on the semi-floating axles.
Also, some small motor homes are not full floating. Toyota later recalled these axles and converted them to fully floating. The motor home manufacturers just slapped two wheels on the axle and thought that was enough, until they started breaking off.
Bad Karma 01-08-2002, 09:18 AM Well, if you are correct about the 1-ton AXLES, then the 1-ton PICKUPS did not come with them.........
My donor vehicle was an '85 2WD 1-ton pickup, RN55 model, I believe, says 1-ton on the title even. It did not have a FF rear axle or V-6 diff (G292 code on the tag). It was a standard-looking 5-lug rear end. :)
boston 4runner 01-08-2002, 09:35 AM 2wds here have 7.5s, with one exception...the 2wd 4-speed manuals no-option base model had an 8-inch...i have one, its a 1990, and still has the carbed motor and no power steering
strange truck:smokin:
SUBLIME89 01-08-2002, 10:01 AM The One ton p/u is pretty much the same as any other 2wd. The main differences are the rear springs(stiff as hell), Brakes, and rear axle from 4x4(brake parts are the same on one ton and 4x4).
Since toyota did't make a actual dually one ton p/u.( I have never seen one anyway) they were sold as chassis cabs with full floating dually rear ends, and a longer chassis. Front brakes are same as 4x4 also.
It would be awesome to build a 4door dually 4x4 with 7MGE out of one of these.
hmmm..
I was talking about the Toyota dualie axle but the original posting was talking about 1 ton Toyota axle. I don't know much about these. Nissan also offered a 1 ton 2wd vehicle.
Pazuzu 01-08-2002, 12:40 PM Well, I just saw one on the way to work today. Without climbing under the truck while it was moving in the parking lot :D, it appeared to be a 2wd LB PU with 5 lugs, didn't look any bigger/heavier/taller than a standard 2WD truck.

Ah, fawk you :flipoff2:
You're stupider than I thought. ONE of the lugs had bright yellow paint on it. I whipped out my trusty timing gun, clocked on the painted lug, crossreferenced that against the speed of the vehicle (which I calculated by how quickly he was passing the standard 6 foot spacing of the gas station parking spots), did a quicky calculation, and came across the fact that only a 5 lug rim (nut 6 lug) could recreate that timing.
:p

so was that a 14" rim or 15"? how many miles were on the truck????????????????????????
fullywrecked 01-08-2002, 05:30 PM I've got an 89 1ton single wheel 2wd longbed. It appears to have a standard 4cyl 8" third. It is a v6 auto stripo model it also has heavier leaf packs in the rear and larger brakes than a normal 2wd. It states 1 ton on the tailgate. Owe ya its five lug I did the same thing with the timing light to figure it out but without it moving I had to calculate 0 speed into it I am still waiting to see if my yellow painted lug nut comes around but everytime I park it and get out to check its still not moving...so this is very difficult to figure out. :flipoff2:

e cliff 01-11-2002, 11:34 AM the rear leafs are a little stiffer, the brakes are bigger. the axle shafts them self are bigger i diameter untill they neck down at the carrier, the 85 and newer all came with efi, i have seen both the v6 thirds and the std8" thirds in the rear, and if you want to double check this info go to the pick n pull in rancho ( forien yard) there is one down there.
