Whats the most you have gotton out of a V8?

I would tell you what old george (79 scout II 345) had on it before the Jasper man came but you would not believe me.

Something like 1.5 mpg.

Oh, you mean miles on the odo?

My 77 Scout 345 went a little over 380,000 before it's first crank turn and cylinder bore. At 196K my oil pressure suddenly went to zero. I tore it down and found the oil pump was not pumping. At that point, I ran a ridge reamer and glaze breaker in it slapped in new rings, a new oil pump and had the heads cleaned up and BB Chevy valve springs installed. I stuck in a new Comp 260H cam and drove the piss outa it for five more years before the oil pressure went to zero again. Shoulda changed the cam bearings the first time. When I tore it down this time both heads were cracked.

She'll be runnin' again soon and I'm tryin' for the magic Million.

I've a '73 SII with a regular 345 (not 345a) engine that's coming right up on 400,000 miles, never been apart. It's getting low on power, as the compression is down. I have to run straight 50 in it to keep the lifters from ticking at highway rpms, but even with the old 2bbl and restrictive dual glasspacks it will hold its own on the freeway grades....

My '79 345a was perfectly healthy at 230,000 but I towed 12k lbs over a mountain grade and ran the oil out of the damn thing doing so (oops). I put rings and bearings in it and put it back together, and it's seen about 15k since then, doing fine.

It's not unusual to see 350 to 400 out of these if taken care of. They do like oil and water in them though, you might try to remember that....

My 345 went 400,000 miles - it was only when I pulled the pan to replace a leaking gasket that I noticed front cam bearing material in the front sump. Otherwise, I wouldn't have thought about yanking the motor. It ran fine. :smokin:
