: Vacume lines on front axle on a 95 YJ

OK I think I have a problem. The vacume lines on my front axle don't reach and I don't have them connected right now. Drives fine in 2wd but I think they might have something to do with my 4wd. I don't know. I am a little worried that they might do something for my 4WD but I have no clue. I just finished the Rubicon Express 4.5 inch lift and I took the hoses off because they were too short.
So two questions. What are the hoses for? And how can I make them reach?

Yikes! DUCK! I see flames headed your way!:nuke:
Do you own some sort of service manual? GO BUY ONE!
Those are your vacuum disconnects. They actuate a sliding sleeve that engages your passenger side outer axle to the inner axle. Yeah, without it and a the fact that you probably have a bone stock front axle you have a lifted 2 wheel drive Jeep.

ok great this is good to know. Did you have to address this problem? And if so how did you do it?

It was never a problem on my 92 - they seemed to be long enough. But then I tossed D30 axle and swapped in a D44. Solid axles and locking hubs. You can just cut the vacuum lines and put in some extensions with some fittings. It'll probably cost a whole $1. Just make sure you don't reverse them when you put in the extensions or your disconnect won't work.

what do you mean by reverse it? and what about the electrical connector?

The vacuum lines run a vacuum motor (seriously, buy a manual!). There should be 2 vacuum lines. 1 is actuated to connect the outer axle when you put it into 4 wheel drive, 1 is actuated when you pop it out of 4 wheel drive to disconnect the axle. The electrical connector feeds the "4X4" idiot light on your dash. If you really want confirmation that you're really in 4 wheel drive, just splice some wire in line with the connector. Use a soldering iron and shrink tubing or the connection will corrode and become useless really quickly.

Dude, if you follow the lines up, you'll find where they're taped to the harness. Cut the tape or loom or whatever is holding them and they'll drop down a lot farther.

And stop asking such stupid questions. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

HTH,

These guys don't know what they are talking about, listen to me. Just take those lines and tuck them up somewhere. They aren't related to 4wd, they are the vent line for the vacuum brake on your air intake/throttle body. You'll get tremendous horsepower gains by disconnecting them. DC (the company that makes Jeep) put them on there to decrease engine power and meet safety standards, it's all a big conspiracy.

By the way with your new lift kit you can fit 38's or 40's, and your stock axles are plenty strong for those. The only thing you'll need is extended fender flares and armor all for them.

While your at it you might want to check out a little site most call JU and keep this sh!t off POR.

I'm a newbie too, but I don't post about stuff that a Haynes guide can explain. :rainbow:

I hate it when I hit the wrong fucking button.
anyway how can I gain tremendous gain from keeping these off? they have been off for a few days and I have not felt any difference. and I just tried engaging the 4WD and I noticed the little light did not come on so I am going to tend to beleive the rest of the guys here.
