: XJ 2.8 and YJ 2.5 bell housing pattern?

Been getting conflicting information whether the bell housing bolt patterns are the same between the 2.5 and 2.8. From what I have researched the V6 and 2.5L XJ use the 904 as did YJ 2.5L and share the 60 degree GM pattern. Then I’ve also read the Jeep 2.5L doesn’t have the 60 degree. Has anyone actually bolted up a XJ 904 to a YJ?

I don't believe so. To my knowledge the 2.5 is NOT a 60-degree like the small Chevies (2.8, 3.1, 3.4, 3.58). It seems to me that I've heard of someone hooking a 904 to a 2.5 by changing the bellhousing, but no firsthand experience.

I'm confused because just earlier this week there was a post about SM420s swapped behind YJ 2.5s using S10 bells and the Jeep 2.5L has a 60 degree pattern.

I'm wanting to put an auto behind my 4 banger but auto 4 bangers are rare but the XJs are plentiful.

84-current 2.5 dakota/jeep shares the same pattern with the 60 degree GM v6. (2.8/3.1/3.4)

bellhousings are interchangeable.

pre 84 2.5's were GM built pontiac 151ci that used the standard chevy pattern design.

if you still feel misled contact novak conversions or advance adapters, they will tell you the samr thing HTH

dakotas wern't built until 87 and at that time only the 238 v-6 was available, 88 they started using the 2.5 which is the same as in a jeep and 2.5 in dakotas was phased out in 96

Hold on a second. The 2.5 used in Dakotas from 88-95 was the same motor used in Chrysler K cars. It has it's own unique bellhousing bolt pattern. It is NOT the GM 60* bolt pattern. The 96-2000 2.5 used in the Dakota IS the Jeep 2.5 and DOES have the GM 60* pattern.
