Been playing with shapes based around the Amigo. I plan on tubing it out so I can have something I can roll for the fun of it. I have had some ofther ideas in the past but some suggest I should at least keep some shape of the original body. Now I'm not building a comp rig just something to go down the trail with that has room for all the camping gear etc, yet is ruff'n'ready for whatever I want to do.

So what changes/additions or ??? would you do to this shape?

I say keep the hood skin and grill/lights for the Amigo look, floorpan and firewall, and tube the shit out of the rest of it... maybe try to keep the tubes along the same shape of the removed body, but at that point, safety overrides style, so whatever works.

Are you planning to cut up the body and add tubing....... or are you scrapping most of the body (except like the floor pan and firewall), tubing it, then making skins that sorta look like an Amigo? Looks like a good start to me..... but the back end is the only thing that screams Amigo IMHO. It'd be hard to tube it out and stay true to form though, so for what you are trying to do, that is probably as good as it gets.;)

Maybe get an "AMIGO" b-pillar decal like the first gens had:confused:

At this point I'm not sure how much of the original body I will attempt to salvage. I was thinking of just using panels to resemble the Amigo since Isuzu parts/panels are still pretty pricey when compared to a sheet of metal. I agree that the rear area is the only true Amigo shape that is "true to form".

I'm not even sure if I was to keep the firewall and dash much less the floor pan. Course now you guys have me thinking that would eliminate a lot of work. But part of the plan was to raise the seats a bit to improve over the hood visibility.

On the grill and lights, I was thinking of making a metal replica of the grill and using the lights. I am considering narrowing the body part a few inches which is why I was thinking of not salvaging the firewall/dash but it would be cool if it was tube/panel on the outside and Isuzu cushy on the inside.....

Things that make you go Hmmmmm.

Just have some tube bent that will form a platform to lift the seats up to your desired height. Then weld some tabs to it that allow it to be mounted using the factory seat bolt holes. It'd even be easy to integrate the sliding mechanism for the seats. Just some ideas;)

Sounds like just another step toward the inevitable destination that is a BUGGY. If you're planning on tubing it out, do it all the way. If you want to keep the creature comforts of having windows and doors that still seal, build protection. Dallas is going through the realization right now that he should have gone full tube a long time ago. But instead, he went from one stage, to another, to another, to another. And soon the firewall and floor are all thats left.

And just a hint, The next stage is in the works right now.

The only way you're gonna be able to "roll for the fun of it" and get away with it, is if there is nothing left that is fragile, and exposed obviously.

The amigo body is pretty wide, which sucks on narrow trails. I say ditch the body, build a tube body and bolt the hood and fenders onto the tubing. Or mimic the body panels with thin sheat metal and bolt those onto the tubing.

i hear you saying full tube Michael.

skin it w/ all your amigo sheet metal if you like..................i see the rear Dovetailed and up high w/ the wheels f/r at a 90* approach and departure (meaning forward/rearward of the tube)

Make you coil mounts as higher towers......in an effort to LOWER the COG a bit more. PLUS they look cool as hell shooting up out of the sides of the hood :D

oh.........and get some BIGGER TIRES...........i mean shit 38 are so 2 years ago

seriously, it would be very cool to keep a little of the isuzu "flavor" w/ a little hood, grill, rear quarter action..........BUT really F'it ..................it ultimately about your safety and FUN level.
