alright, i hv got everything running that was not when i bought my 9/69 FJ40 (all lights, horn, wipers, carb rebuild, gas tank install, battery, new battery cables, etc) HOWEVER my blinkers still do not and hv never worked. i am stumped.
this is what i know :
1) all the running lights work.
2) the brake lights work when the running lights are off
3) the tail lights seem to be very bright when i turn on the running lights, seems both the brake/blinker light and the running lights are both on at the same time
4) i get no click, buzz, or any sound or movement in the dash amp meter when i switch the turn signal or hazards on.
5) the reverse light works ever once in a while, but not in any consistant manner.
anyone have any clues on what is wrong. thanks for any help!

you need to have the flashing mechanism. On my 71 fj40 it is mounted to the left of the clutch pedal (probaly not it's stock location). With out that nothing will happen

probably no help, but my 71 has the blinker in the same spot- to the left of the clutch pedal. see if it's there and good.

edit: my 72 has it there.

Also, are you sure the running and brake wires are not switched around...
This is all red tail correct....
1157 bulbs....
If you switched the wires, your running would over illuminate the brake and turn lights cuz they would be too bright.

I'd check that and the flasher relay.

AND is the ground good?
A bad ground will cause all sorts of whacky responses.

I'm in the same boat- blinkers are non operational. Right now I'm in the process of chasing down all of the previous owners' "contributions" to the wiring harness. Shotty, shotty...

My '70 fj55 has the blinkers on the column, and the contacts in the blinker mechanism somehow broke or wore down. But for some reason, I think I have more problems than that.... I'll keep you posted if I find anything of use to you.
