how far has anyone moved their rear axle back ? i was thinkin of moving mine back to be almost even with the rear of the tub ???

i know i will need to move the gas tank, make longer arms, new buckets for upper springs...anything else ?

i plan on doing a XX susp setup but where my axles are now only allows 24" arms

Damn, that's 9"? Looks perfect with those 38's...But I would have thought that at 9" you'd have tire stickin' past the tub.

Thanks Caleb! It doesn't look like it from that picture, but the very back of the tires is actually further back than the end of the bumper, and the bumper that I am building is an inch closer to the body. There is still a lot of work to be done before the rig is driveable. I'm hoping to have it ready for UROC in February.

I moved my spring, and shackle perches and used some mongrel springs that I garage engineered(top secret).
The set up works awesome.

I moved my rear axle back about 9-10" when I built my suspension last year. I went to a fuel cell and coilovers.

moving the axle back 9" looks sweet. CJLargo has a fuel cell. but for a streetable jeep. I have to ask where did the gas tanks go. Up looks to be the only place. H8 or ghetto. Have any pics on that?

I'm trying to get this thing done quickly, so temporarily the gas tank is where the back seat normally is. When I have more time I am going to make a gas tank to go between my upper control arms, above the rear drive shaft. It will be fairly small but we should be able to make it 10 to 12 gallons. If you look at the picture Supergper posted of my rear suspension there is room for a tank there.

I raised my stock tank.
I cut a hole in the bed from side to side, and 24" form the rear forward. I built new cross members off the frame to mount the tank and skid. built a new frame for the raised bed, and installed an axcess panel for the fuel pump and sending unit, the re-sheeted it. I can still put the rear seat in for my daughters.

I sware the more I see your Jeep H8monday the more I want it:D I move my Cj-5's rear axle back 3"es, pretty E-Z... All I did was take the back shackle hanger fliped it around, and then moved the front one 3"es back. When you flip the back shackle hanger around it moves the hanger 3"es back.....

Once I put the fuel cell in the bed, and cut my quarter panels out, there was no problem moving the axle back.

thanks for the pics H8.
I need to keep room to seat my 2 boys.
I have been thinking sattle tanks or a tank from a car. it would be flater and longer. maybe just add 9" to the frame and mount it there.

GhettoRig

I thought about lenghtening the frame to make room for the tank, but in the end I am very glad I didn't It would have looked funny and the departure angle would not have been anywhere near as good.
