Well my brakes are finally falling apart up front on my 83 after 150,000+ and am considering swapping to a better set up for as little as possible, anyone know what works best and what years to get the parts from?

AND are there any pirate clubs around Louiseville, KY?

Not sure if it's in your $ range, but switch over to IFS calipers/MC, then use LC rotors. I'm pretty certin that you can do it with that year...Someone back me up....

The 'Pirates of the Rubicon' club is in California. There may be some wannabe 'pirates' around the country but there's only ONE POR club. Can you guess how many members they have??? :D

you can upgrade to ifs calipers from 86 and newer 4x4 use 81 toy l/c rotors-a/p has some cross drilled rotors for this for 84.95 ea.
summit racing carries a cross drilled rotor from power stop that is cadmium plated for corrosion they are sweet

left part# pwr-jbr-336l 94.99ea.
right part# pwr-jbr-336r 94.99ea.

These thing suck if you run in a lot of mud!! The holes pack and you wear out the pads faster. Look good on a Street Rod of MR though!!!! :usa:

Use 81 to 83 FJ-40 rotors. Get loaded calipers for a 86-89 truck. After you install the calipers, take your old ones back for the core, don't take them in when you get the new ones to avoid the comparison check. Shop around for the rotors, I paid $27 apiece for them.

Two options. The one already mentioned is the easiest ... 1986 4cyl IFS calipers and Cruizer vented rotors.

Another option is the "V6" swap. Late model "V6" calipers, plus matching 1" master cylinder and booster, with the LC rotors. The "V6" calipers are larger and require the larger master. The larger booster also makes a big difference. I tried it both ways (1" MC with old booster) and really prefer the larger booster. Just get the assembly from a boneyard with the three-way for the plumbing.

I put "V6" is quotes for a reason. Orinigally the larger calipers were found on the early v6 trucks. Later, Toyota started using them on 4cyl as well.

I just bought LC rotors and v6 calipers for my front brake swap, but I bought '86 LC rotors per Marlin's recommendation, and the calipers contact the wheel. Are '81 LC rotors different; will they push the wheels out further from the calipers?
