I have a chance to buy a rolled 96 Tacoma- 4x4-standard cab-4cyl-shortbed. It has 34000 original miles, everything works nothing on frame is bent. the only things wrong with it are the cab- doors-fenders and hood are junk. What do you think it might be worth? I can get it for $1500.00

Doors might not be junk if its just the top section. Taco Half doors.

You should buy it, then get an Air ride chassis for it, and SAS it with a Ford hi-pinion full width D44. ;) And of course a 60 rear!

If you've got basic mechanical skills, that's an excellent price.

In other words, buy the motor and tranny? ;)

And frame, and electrical, and nice seats....need I go on? A chassis gets welded to the existing frame except in the case of the X-chassis which is setup for a 4 link (or James Link) front and rear and requires no frame.

My friend bought a 97 Taco 4x4 rolled 3 times nothing was straight. The only good thing was the drive train. He paid $1300.00. $1500 is a great deal. I would buy it.

If it was a v6 I would not hesitate to get it I just wasn't sure I would like the 4cyl. I guess i'm gonna get it anyway. I figure I can sell all the stock parts i'm not using to fund some of the parts I need. Probably won't go the formula route as I have a rack of DOM in the garage and a bender and welder. I'll get some pics when I get it.
