Going to do a sbc 350 / th350 swap into my 1970 land cruiser, keeping the land cruiser tc - I will need to CHANGE the output shaft.... is changing the output shaft a big nightmare, get a tranny shop to do it job? or is it something someone with average mechanical skills able to do- no special tools required job? I did a search here... found people trying to take a 2wd th350 and make it 4wd by cutting the output shaft, then attaching a chevy tc- this is NOT what Im doing.

Thanks in advance:cool:

well to change the output shaft your goint to have to take out pretty much all of the guts of the tranny, the pump will have to come out, and the gear sets, most of the pieces come out in sub assemblys and as long as you dont pull them apart you should be ok, i would recomend getting a haynes or chiltons on rebuilding gm transmissions that way you have somewhat of a guide, as for special tools i dont think you will need any to do just that, if your going to rebuild it also then there is a special tool needed, and make sure you get new gaskets for the pump and anything else you take apart HTH

I've rebuilt 3 trannys so far, but not a 350. 2 th400, an a c6) There are some very good videos out there, using the video they show you how things go together.

With a little engineuity, you can make the tools to rebuild trannys, it's a matter of compressing the clutches in the drums to install a snap ring.

Good luck Thom
