so I flipped over and wrecked a hayes hydraulic lever. The ledge was bigger than I thought. :) Can you replace those things (I assume so, but I haven't really looked at it yet...) ?

Or should I just heat it w/ the Mapp torch and try to bend it back? If I do that, I'm kinda worried I'll snap the alloy and be SOL.

they are replaceable, but I'm not sure if you have to rebleed the system or not... a couple months bac one of the mags did a report on another company's lever and said they didn't think Hayes hyd brakes couldn't get any better - till they tried this lever...I'll try to find it for ya today...

found it, but my memory failed me a little, they loved the levers but didn't think they were "$70 better" than the factory levers...

read the article here (http://mountainbike.com/equipment/equip_1001_razor.shtml)

also check out http://www.hayesdiscbrake.com/ for ifo and contacts on factory parts...

also let me know what you do and how you like it (if you change levers) as its only a matter of time before I'm in the same situation ;)

appreciate the info. No way I'd spend 70 to upgrade a lever that I'll probably just bend again anyway. Unless of course Hayes wants 60 for theirs.

thanks again, I'll let you know if there are any tricks to it.

My friend who races DH raves about the Stiffy levers, but he probably doesn't pay what we do....

I've bent my levers back 'cold' several times, just never bend them back all the way to straight to avoid cracking them....
