: Tube fenders on a TJ ?
Mike Beach 01-08-2002, 11:50 AM Well my fenders are pretty mangled, thought about flat fendering but they'd still get messed up. So Im thinking of make tube fenders that would tie into a bumper hoop or something. What do you guys think? Anyone have any experience? Pics? Any helpful information would greatly be appreciated
Thanks

Welby 01-08-2002, 01:34 PM Badassjeepguy can probably answer some questions about it....Here's a couple pics.

badassjeepguy 01-11-2002, 08:43 PM if your gonna go through the trouble of tube, then make sure you raise the fenders as high as possible... loose the inner fender, cut the hood to the height ya want and tube it....

Mike Beach 01-28-2002, 02:05 PM I was surfing and found this jeep that www.rockware.net (http://www.rockware.net) did. What do you guys think? How hard would it be to do?

coachgeo 01-28-2002, 07:46 PM I LIKE IT!
Clean... For fenders I was thinking on modifiying utility trailer fenders to fit my TJ.. cut them down to a flat fender look. I like this look too.... maybe I could combine both ideas
hmmmmmmmmm
coachgeo 01-28-2002, 07:52 PM As I look at it again I do see one potential problem
"IF" these are not tied to the cage then there will eventually be cracking or breakage where the bars attach to the body. Anytime you attach to frame and body in one unit u will eventually get breakage cause the flex is different between body and frame. This ones head light loop is attached to frame and tube fenders attached to this and body (assuming they don't go thru to the cage., which they may do)

From what I understand they are tied into the cage. The only thing that I dont like, I dont think that the fronts look supported enough, what do you think?

wellllll..... the tube that goes around the driving lights actually does bend angling backward some before attaching. Thus this hole tube around the light should help gusset the fender tubes somewhat when u stand on the fenders or lean onto them. There may also be an inner tube along the body line parallel with the outer part of the fender that we cant see. If you loook at the pics of BADASS's rig (included below) you can see this type of set up under tube fenders.

coachgeo 01-28-2002, 08:26 PM Dumb question but can u bend square tubing with out it kinking or looking fawked at the bends? This might look good for a tube fender setup.

The problem with losing the inner fenders on a TJ is that there is too much crap attached to them to get rid of them entirely. There isn't anywhere to relocate all that stuff.
Mike,
I sent this thread to John @ Hunter to see how much it would cost to get some front fenders like on the white TJ.

Economos 01-28-2002, 08:42 PM That's probably one of the sickest TJs I have seen.

Ya dork. You were SUPPOSED to be at my house sunday to install that gastank skid, but NO, you had to go wheeling and wrinkle your TJ on saturday. :rasta:
We'll have to find another time to do it.

Well Like they say:
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
or is that
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
One thing I like about it is that it creates a flat fender look yet it blends in some lines that keeps the TJ/CJ image as well... AKA the tubes around the square front driving lights keep the TJ/CJ lines but the bluntness of the fenders look like those of the flat fender era.

I saw this rig down at Independance (CO) over the summer. Very nice rig, but damn, all that shiny paint and $$ poured into that thing, I give the guy credit for taking it on trails like that.

Chris K i relocated everything.... and didnt loose a thing...... there is also a support going across the engine tied into both fenders... ALL mounting points are tied into the frame or cage.... nothing mounted to body at all.... ill give one hint, ford had a coolant overflow and washer bottle combined... i used that, which saved alot of room..... all thanks to the creativity of my buddy john... couldnt of done it with out him....
Tx Outlaw 02-04-2002, 08:37 PM Hey badassjeepguy, got more pics of your rig somewhere? I need to do more clearancing on my fenders for 38 to 39.5's - not sure yet what I'm going to run. I was thinking about raising my front fenders up to the first bodyline in the side of the hood and cutting out the back a little larger. BTW: nice work!
Thanks.
Matt K 02-04-2002, 09:10 PM These are nothing special but they are pretty stong. The edges are 5/8" solid rod, and the tops are sides are 1/8" plate. The fenders are attached to the fram via a A arm in the front, they use the factor tie to the tub and a brace to the other fender.

I was mainly wanting more of a direct side shot. I could tell most from the other 2 pics, but was wondering how you did the hood behind the wheelwell area. I wasn't sure if you had some pics up on another site or not.
Thanks!
If I had a goofy fendered rig I would go with Ants set up..looks pretty smooth:)
Tx Outlaw 02-07-2002, 05:07 AM You ever find any pics?
