Hey who has the school bus tow rig? I'm thinking Camo or someone. My buddy and I got to talking tow rigs at lunch (he's building a BIG Blazer) and I mentioned the school bus idea to him. He was rather intrigued.

Tried search but it doesn't like 3 letter words???? wtf??

i have tought about it real serious but i just hate how they look. you can pick up a diesel one with a allison and get the rear cut off into a flat bed and hit it. i think mudlite has one done up the way i have described.

I remember seeing a Suki on the back of that beast. Maybe Mudlite or someone?? I can't remember.

You can add a * to your three letter word (bus*) to get the search to work btw.

Cool. So the vehicle drives into the back of the bus, using the drop down ramp?

I would think for a trail built FJ40 I would need to chop off more of the back of the bus and make kind of a flat bed.

The wife's gonna love it when I pitch the whole bus idea.

imagine if you could some how make a door at the back simular to that on a semi trailer. then you could drive the jeep, or other inferior vehicle :flipoff2: , into the back and close the door. it would be kinda like those huge tractor trailor things that dragsters use

my breain is reeling and it hurts

Only bad thing is that I am pretty sure that the Speed Limit for a bus of this sort is 55, at least in Ohio. That's what a guy that I wheel with says, he has one for his rig. I don't have a pic of his though.

I just saw one last week - this guy had chopped the bus part off after the 4th row of seats and put a flat bed on it. It looked like it had enough room on the back to haul something big. I think he was using it to haul a truck built for mudding because there was one parked next to it.

The speed limit thing is only for a school bus being used as a school bus. Once you turn it into your school-a-bago, then all bets are off. Make sure you paint it.

One of the guys in my club has done this to haul his XJ around. I'll see if I can get some pics. Better yet, you could just come over to the Badlands on the weekend of the 9th(i think) and check it out.

That was never a problem for the guys I knew who used to tow their mud racers this way. One guy on tractor tires even had the floor molded to fit his front tires  All of 'em with some "chop" in the rear so the vehicle actually rode ON the bus. When I joined Missouri Mud Racing in '93, there were at least half a dozen guys doing this. There are NONE today. Most just switched to pickups with campers, a couple have RV's. None of them would go back to the bus.

I think in most states if you're towing a trailer the speed limit drops to 55 so that wouldn't be a loss.:D

you'd have to drive into the side though, as the motor is in the back. I want it though.

I believe it is also possible to convert lots of these rear engine busses to a mid engine setup, although as with any large scale conversion you're talking a LOT of work

Not in Missouri. 70 MPH for everyone. Pretty sure I didn't have to slow down in KS or CO either (75 in KS) :)

Other way 'round. '70 in KS, 75 in CO. And no, you don't have to slow down w/a trailer, at least in CO. WY is the same.

Dont forget that in most states you add a permanet crapper and a kitchen/bedroom you can register these big ass tanks as a RV. No special license & registration cost drop from a couple hundred to about 35.00 for an ol' school bus. One of the hidden benefits is when the ol lady is ragging you have some other place to go!
