: Will TJ Dana 30 bolt into an XJ

Anybody know if a TJ d30 will bolt into a 2001 XJ. I'm looking at a new front axle for my TJ and was thinking of putting my old axle into the wife's XJ as a quick and easy way to give her a front Truetrac. :D

Yup, you can even swap steering, and to my knowledge brakes too.

Usually this is done in reverse though.

Unbolt and rebolt, everything is exactly the same.:D

So, does this mean when the TJ front D44 comes out, it will be a direct bolt in swap for my XJ? Hmmmm.

Yeah, just get in line (behind me) at the yunkyard trying to get that front 44 :flipoff2:

If your looking, Brad Kilby has a used low mile TJ front D44 w/ ARB for sale - check the JU for sale section. He wants $2100. I've been going over my finances to see if I can pull it off, but its not looking real good right now - maybe if I sell one of my wifes horses, but then me and my jeep would be out on our ass.:(

Yeah it is as far as bolting it in goes but remember that the TJ is std. rotation (low pinion) and the XJ is reverse rotation or reverse cut (high pinion). That still confuses me. Someone chime in please.

TJpwr, what exactly is your question? Yes, TJ is std while XJ is rev. So what? The rev cut is more desirable b/c you are going forward on the "drive" side of the gear not the "coast" side as in a std rotation and you pinion angle will be a bit less severe.

But back to the question, it will still bolt up no prob. The driveline might be a issue to closer watch but should not be a prob.:D

Yes... that is true... to a point. With the 2000 model XJ, DC switch the D30 to a std rotation, low pinion setup. The 1999 and older rev rotation pinion are more desirable (as far as D30's go) because of the less severe drive line angles as noted above. When you lift, every little bit makes a difference. Just follow the trend on all hi-pinion set up's... who'd want to low pinion?

You can already get an XJ D44, to my knowledge they have been around for a while. (just not in the US :( )

So let me rehash this just because I am a little slow.
If I grab a d30 from an XJ and put it on my TJ it will bolt up
no problem. Sweet!! :D
So does this mean that the axle shafts only can be swapped?
I have about 6 axles 2 off of a Grand that are sitting in a Junk Yard down the road from me. Anyone know the spline count off the top of their head for a D30 on a TJ 3.73 gears.
It should be the same as a XJ right?
TIA.

The D30 has only one spline count that I am aware of.

No one covered this. so I will stir the pot. the XJ D30 came in a RC version. I would put that in before swapin in a TJ D30. depending on your style of wheeling. it will bust. just a matter of time. get 80 waggy D44 and don't worry about it.

For the non-believers out there, I will second this. I was in Europe this summer and they were going on about it in the Euro 4x mags.
