: Warn Hawse Fairlead

I have a warn 9.5ti and was thinking of putting a hawse fairlead
on instead of my traditional roller fairlead.

I here some sources say that they are ONLY for synthetic line and can't/shouldn't be used with wire lines. I've also seen different sources say that they are used for wire line...

So, the question is who is right?
Are there any problems with running the hawse fairlead with wire line?
Which is better?
Is synthetic line superior to wire? Or, just something to drop $400 on?

If the hawse fairlead is made of steel then its good to be used with wire cable. If its made of aluminum, composite or plastics then you should use synthetic line.

As for which is better I vote synthetic imo

Why would you say synthetic is better?
Because it doesn't splinter and barb?
Because it is lighter, or stronger?

Which would you use with steel line, hawse or roller?

The hawse will work fine and if you do go to synthetic then you will be ready to go. At least once you file the rough marks off of it so it doesn't screw up the new rope.

Synthetic line is better in that most of it doesnt stretch, fray and the greatest i think is that if it breaks it is most likely not gonna kill or seriously injure some one if it hits them. strength is sometimes higher with the synthetic line.

For weekend warrior, trail use, and general ASU posing:flipoff2:...the stock wire will do you just fine. Also, every stock winch comes with a hawse fairlead so obviously they work. I personally think they look better anyway. If you do decide to go roller, check harbor freight. They go on sale for 19.99 from time to time.

I admit there is some posing up here at ASU but we've actually got some really cool trails up here like globe, samson, and the mac daddy of them all the walmart trail:flipoff2:

reasons I went synthetic

lighter, wont kink, wont fray, wont cut you in half if it brakes, all around ease to work with. You dont need gloves to work with it and it wont freeze up like the steel stuff will if you are into snow wheeling. Depening on the line it can be just as strong as the wire stuff plus you dont have to deal with this

Using our powers of intuition, we can figure out three things.

One: this jeep has a ramsey winch, not a warn.

And two, That heep doesn't have a 35/30 while 302's does.

And third, if he had 46" tires...he would most definately have put it in his screenname or at least sig line.

So there:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

synthetic is the way to go... once you work with it once you will hate going back to steel cable. the ease of rigging is worth the extra cost alone, not to mention the extra safety factor.

The weight saving is the biggest PRO, in my eyes- in a recent club trail ride/ OUTtING FROM HELL. I had to run the winch lines-mutli times to get several other rigs unstuck- one of our guys had the rope- SUM BITCH! it's so nice not to have to drag that heavy ass cable up a muddy hill over and over. When I can get the $$$, I will have the rope.
OH I'd say roller with cable ONLY, Hawse can work for both- but most prefer the roller with cable.
