Anyone have any pics of their coil swap swap? I also would like to know what springs you used and what trac bars and mounts. Thanks:D

There are a couple pics on Rocky Road Outfitter's site on the suspension page. I also know M. Martian has pretty good pic of a coil set-up from a guy who rolled, but I don't have the link. You might be able to find some stuff in the search, too. ~Steve

Here's some food for thought on this topic. They apparently use this on early Bronco's...

You mean 'Wristed' radius arms? It's a pretty cool idea. Allow one radius arm to pivot for mad flex. Pin it in place, and the axle becomes a giant sway bar.

I dont have any pics yet, but I can tell you it uses the same coils as you see in the pic above with the shaffer kit. They are way cheap($35) and work perfect. I used 1 3/8" dom tube for the links and purchased some inserts for the rod ends versus taping the tube. Then bought some 3/4" aurora ends with misalignment washers. Rather than fabbing up all the mounts I ordered laser cut tabs from aa-mfg for way cheap. I haven't finised the front yet, but I can tell you the rear is fuckin awesome. I would have loved to have used coil-overs, but at around $400-500 a corner I couldn't afford it.

The tubed sami belongs to Jason Coker. He built the whole thing, hes a very good fabricator. It got a efi 1600 8v, grs1, toys 5.29s, detroits and 36x12.5 tsl radials. The rear tubing is now boxed into a bed and it is sweet as @#$%.

Ok, so on Jason rig he is running Toyo axles and the Zuk t-case. What mods does the driveshaft need to do this? Lengthend and CV joint? Also, does anyone make a good coil over kit that is not $2000?

Ya, I got the same set up and I have to get a new shaft that is lengthened and cv-d. As far as pre-fabbed coil kits the only one that I know of that is offered for sammys is the shaffer coil kit. HE can make it for the toy axles for $1650 last time I talked to him. You can always do it yourself though.......

Having seen a bunch of homebuilt coil setups, and built a 3-link myself, a well designed coil setup is worth the 1600$ or whatever if you value your time at all.

Things they have now like johnny joints and laser cut tabs etc speed the process up a lot but you pay for that stuff. Mines cost me about 400$ in steel, TTB bushings, regular bushings, bolts welding/torch supplies etc but I have free access to machine shop. Must be 200 hours into it now, it's all bolt on though and thats a bit part of the time.

Anyways, if ya want to be wheeling not wrenching, spend the money! (Just don't buy an old HHOR piece of @#$^! That thing was a death trap!)

Bill, I think I would have to be one of the founding members as well. I think in our case, being military, we have a darn good excuse though. We're not slow, we're just tired!

I had a Landcruiser axle in the rear of my last Samurai and it

worked great, the only drawback is the sheer size of it. You lose

quite a bit of ground clearance ( kind of like our version of a 14-

bolt). It also has c-clip axles, but they are the same size axles as

a 14-bolt so we probably arent going to break them anyway.

I watched a guy snap an FJ40 front few weeks ago in a Sammi. It had 40 boggers and a 400cid V8 though....so he kinda deserved it. :D

PS: That question was posted 6mo ago. :flipoff2:
