Any lines on a cheap easy place to get an axle breather for an 8.8? Don't really want to donate my money to a Frod dealer unless absolutely necessary.

Drill and tap a 1/4 NPT thread, then screw in a hose barb.
I like to mount them in the pig on an 8.8. The stock nipple and location does not allow both axle tubes to breath well. If you do a lot of water crossings you will drasticaly improve your water proofing if you relocate and increase the size as I stated.
Weld the stock hole shut and weld a bolt in its place if you need something to bolt your brake line T fitting to.

But if your still interested in keeping the stock breather location, I got mine from the Ford dealer for only 2-3 dollars.

I just pulled mine off and it screwed right into the 8.8.

If not I'd use the hose barb like mentioned above.

Well said, but H8 had a good point on moving the location for more efficiency.

Thanks for the real replies and thanks for the sarcasm...you guys would get really bored if you couldn't post a dozen I can't believe you're that stoopid messages a day. The only thing left to do would be drooling over each other's 60.

I can't help but agree with rockbuggy on this one. I mean really, moving the location for the breather tube is a lot more work than is really needed. If you want efficiency try longer tubing or something and move on.

No it really isnt. The F8.8 is very baddly ventilated, from the driver side tube only. The passenger side tube get almost no ventilation, if you do many water crossings the cooling air in the passenger side tube(warm from driving) contracts, and since it cant breath, it draws water in through the passenger side seals. Contaminating your oil, and ruining your seals.
And since you think that drilling and tapping a thread is hard work, I can only imagine how hard changing gear oil is for you, which means that your bearings will suffer more wear, in the water oil soup that is created.
Tapping a new line in the pumpkin takes all of about 10 minutes, the next time you change your gear oil. And will save time by increasing the interval between gear oil changes.
On the other hand, how the hell is longer tubing gonna help poor axle tube ventilation. Dont tell me,.....:rasta: you have just been schooled on what the axle vent tube really is there for.
I would suggest increasing the size of all axle vent tubes, to at least 1/4"NPT, but 3/8" is good if you do a lot of wet crossings.
Listen and learn.
Dont just jump all over something that you dont even understand, ...... just to agree with your buddy.
