: Half Cab/Terra top cages???

I searched and couldnt find what I was looking for:flipoff2:

Anybody have any pictures of cages for a SII with a half cab or terra top? If no pictures, what would be the best way to build a cage and still have the ability to take the top off?
Thanks

go to the Binder bulletin and search there
THIS (http://www.binderbulletin.org/forums/showthread.php?t=18034&highlight=terra+cage) might help you out or just do a search for "terra cage" or something like it

oh yeah...
welcome newbie! :flipoff2:
notice how i can say that now that i am not a newbie myself! :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I searched BB:flipoff2: If I wanted factory hub caps, and dent free fenders I would post there :flipoff2:

The only reason why I'm still a newbie is because I usually find what I'm looking for instead of padding other posts with bullshit:D

Anybody else have anything to add?

A guy named Doug Scott in TN, 615/286-2121, has what you are looking for. Give him a call and maybe he can email the pics to you. Doug is a one of a kind guru and source for IH products and parts.

HTH,

EDIT: Thanks to Toby for noting the correct number. I fixed it. I haven't had cause to call in a long time.....guess I am fogetting his number....

yah, you obviously didn't search hard enough cause I KNOW I have seen a few pictures of in-cab cages and this EXACT QUESTION asked before.... many more times that its been gone over here.

You best bet is going to be: have a good cage builder build you a nice, stout in-cab cage, then build a bed-mounted cage outside the top for extra protection.

Or cut the top to allow rear spreaders to come back.

If you knew us better, you would know that most of us here don't have tops :flipoff2:

However, my next incarnation will have a 1/2 cab of sorts... was going to try to the in-cab thing, but its not as strong, then i was going to have removable back bars to be able to take the top off then re-attach, but nixed that as a PITA. SO now its going to be a shell that fits tight to the cage, with a snap-in rear window and fixed bulkhead... For those rainy NW days when I feel like putting the doors back on.

I know BB has alot of good info, I was just being a smart ass:flipoff2: I have access to 1000' of 1.75 DOM and a bender so I am going to do it myself.

What did you search for? If you would just tell me instead of getting on my ass about searching I would find what I was looking for :flipoff2:

ya, I knew that, I'm just starting to get a little tired of the digs (from BOTH boards, both ways) on things like that. Gentle ribbing is OK and fun, but I'm seeing more and more (especially over there) that is not good for "the community as a whole" and creates some serious animosity between the boards (of which many of us are on both). So a little olive branch goes a long way sometimes. (my personl opinon, I'm NOT a moderator)

I didn't, I just know its there because I have seen and sometimes participated in the discussions. And if it is there, it CAN be found with searching.

I personally hate searching, too much work, takes too much time :D, but like to tell other people to :D

I've built more than a few of them. Tera-Izer has one (on this board), I'm going to building me one for Moab in a couple weeks ~ (putting tera-top, bench and cage onto a 79 Scout of mine).

Here's a couple of pictures of Tera-Izer's ~ He had us fit the rear hoop to the Smitty-built front cage kit ~ but I'm going to make mine with my own front spreaders ~ except for an extra bend forward at the feet (more room).

Heres another shot.

In order to get the most room inside, I put the back bar right up against the bulkhead and then bent it forward (I think it was 15-20*) to match to top itself. Chris wanted that slant in it to stabilize it from any side-to-side forces.

On mine, I'm going to put a side-to-side bar straight across about the same hieght as the top of the bulkhead, then I'm going to run "door-bars" from that tube hieght down towards my feet at about 45* into the floor.

I'm not a big fan of the fiberglass tops ~ they seem to be a little thicker so its hard to keep a bunch of head room. 1.750" tube would help that a ton....

Although I'm going to make a cage for mine, I'm not sure if I'll fully install the whole cage or just keep it a roll bar ~ we'll see.

SSS carries an in-cab Terra 'bar to start with.. Part #SP1TRRB $259.00

I'd be inclined to do some door diagonals like Damian drew in to help triangulate the B-hoop and keep it from folding.

A second rollbar in the bed like I've seen others do wouldn't hurt, either.

Delete the rear window and cut slots in the bottom of the window area and you can run a "regular" type rollbar/cage with rear kickers through the window opening.. and still lift off the top.

Definately kick the front bar forward at the bottom. Mine come straight down from the dash and it SUCKS ASS getting into and out of the damn thing.

Damian , thanks for the pics I've seen chris's cage. I might do something like that but with a SII half cab.

Maybe like an X above and behind the seats?? As soon as I can get ahold of a fuel cell I'm gonna bob it a good 12":D

You must be an awfully small guy.

The steel half-cabs are pretty tight quarters to begin with, aren't they?

Now you're going to put an X behind the seats..

Starting to talk about CJ2 leg room! :D

Ya, thats going to be one of the changes we'll make on the next generation of kits. Originally we didn't want to put the extra bend due to strength ~ but I'm thinking that most people will enjoy the extra room.

I've already started doing that on the XJ cages.

From what I remember ~ there is no room behind the seats in a steel half-cab. But it has been a while since I've seen one.

One of my past employees put the back half of a cage kit in rather than compromise the room inside the cab.

Whatever works.

I dont know how much room I'll have until tuesday:D But I was just saying...if there is room that would have been the plan.

I still want to be able to take the top off, but want a strong cage at the same time. I could drill through the bulk head and bend a hoop kinda like the factory bar and work from there??

Anybody have any creative ideas?

Yeah cuz safety should take a back seat to comfort:rolleyes:

Naw just ribbing... But if you tie the seat to the cages or run door bars your gonna have to be Houdini to get in and out of your truck anyway. I always hit my head on the top bar cuz I'm trying to get my feet over the seat tie in:mad:

What about sandwich plates between the rear cage and front cage to go through the top?

Man those are some old pics of the Terra (3 years ago), thats when the body was acuttly looking good before the roll in Moab and i acuttly had time to work on it. The cage did its job. I do plan on redoing it soon i hope to gain some more intierior room but for now the cage works.

Well I searched the Jeep crap and looked at all the scrambler cages and might aslo try something like this.
http://jeepskate.4x4.org/images/cagey1.JPG

Using 1.75 I should have room for an X above the seat, or something like the one in the pic. A cross brace above/below windshield, and depending on leg room an x behind the seats. Then another hoop behind the cab and what ever over the bed.
And connect the in cab hoop to the outside by drilling through the bulk head

The next batch should be the first of the 2nd Gen. I'm going to pull in a couple local Scout guys to make sure everything works the way it should before I start marketing them.

Damian...you can test fit a cage to my scout :D, bend the fronts like 2nd Gen. but only for a half cab? How much would you be looking to get for a half cab cage?
Thanks
