Cummins diesel

Hi,

Has anyone any advice for dropping a Cummins diesel into a Range Rover. I have looked at the 4bt but am concerned about the 700lbs weight. Any thoughts on the 6AT, is it lighter maybe.

Nobody here has ever thought about putting a different engine into a Rover, let alone a Cummins diesel. I think Rover enthusiasts would be very dissapointed, possibly angry, for even suggesting this. I don't think a Rover could even be modified to deal with all the extra weight due to the diesel engine. You must be crazy, because that's the craziest idea I've ever heard. You may well be right about the engine but there seems to be a few people around who have put different engines into older LR, Perkins, Japanese engines, I have even heard of a Jaguar straight six into a LR, talk about heavy.

The Cummins 4BT is similar in size to the Isuzu 4BD1 used in some Australian rovers including the army perentie and parakeet versions.

A few peeps have fitted the 4BD1 to rangies, something I am also doing.

So the 700 lbs weight of the 4bt is not totally out of the question. I had not realised that the Japanese engine was around the same weight. Any thoughts on the 6AT.............
