My t-case in my 74 fj40 has a hairline crack in it and it is leaking. Is there a simple fix for this (JB Weld?) or am I going to need to get a new t-case housing or is there another realtively inexpensive fix? Any advice is appreciated.

Get a new housing or have it TIG welded by a good welder if it is not tweaked at all.
You can weld the crack as long as there is no deformation of the case that would cause gears etc to mis allign.
Then in stall a T-case saver such as Dons

The t-case is cracked alaong the bottom rear portion on the pass. side. Would Pardi's rear t-case plate be a good idea too? Does anyone know how much it is? I am going to get Don's saver, but would both be overkill? And lastly, anyone know a good TIG welder in the Turlock/Modesto area? Sorry for all the Q's, just want to minimize hassels and costs in the long run.

Did I hear someone mention my T-Case Saver ? :D
I know of a couple people who use both, John Pardi's combined with mine. The two of them together will wrap quite a bit of steel around your case.
If you've got the money, run both. Mine will cost you about $45, I'm not sure what John is charging for his these days.
I've got a buddy who's got some extra cases if you find that you need one. I'm not sure how much he'd sell one for but at least he's local, Stockton.

.............. are you sure it's a hairline crack?... not trying to second guess you , I have seen several t-cases that I thought were cracked that ended up be hairline casting imperfections in the case. When oil collects on them the look like a crack. I have lots of spider casting line crack- looking thingys on my cases but the leaks were coming from elsewhere. Just a FYI.... I use permatex "right stuff" on all parts/ gaskets for good leak free case.

If it is a crack, I'd replace the case. When I was in AUS there was a cruiser/auto parts place called Direct Auto Supply that had probably a hundred bare new castings for the aluminum non split case. Will work with four speed cases up to the advent of the split case... When I was there they were about $120-130 US, but with the favorable exchange rate now they'd be about $100. The place will ship international without a problem. The guys are cool there. I got a rebuilt full floater axle with rebuilt 3rd and spare axle shafts for about $310 US

I have been welding aluminum for longer then I care to remember and have welded many T cases and auto trans cases with good results.
If you can find a competent welder go for it and throw a case saver on it while you have it out and everything should be fine.
You can always ship it to me and I'll fix you up :D :D

metalmender-
Thanks for the offer, but a buddy of my uncles is going to do it for free. PA is a little far to ship it. Hopefully it will work and I can hit the trails soon:) . Sucks having my cruiser 100 miles away (at parents house) but just don't have the room to work on it in Sac.
