I heard he sold the frame for some serious cash to a guy that was going to put a V-8 in it and use it for desert racing. What a shame, it was nice.

Yea, and he put it in his back yard and cut it in half! Chris probably knows if he ever got it back together.

well i have the coilover shocks from it on my rig. :D

ya he sold it to some guy that is redoing it into a prerunner.

i agree it was a pretty cool truck but having wheeled with it and the new truck i can honestly say that his new rig that uses parts they sell and your average guys could build wheels just as good and on some types of obstacles better than the high dollar truggy.

Ok here is a quick overview on Jon's rigs...

Yes the rock truggy was sold about a year ago.

Jon's 4Runner was rolled and has been repaired but has not been on the trail.

Jon recently purchased a 95 Tacoma and we will using this rig to prototype a solid axle kit.

Jon's main rig is an 89 Pickup similar to the Truggy, but was built using our "off the shelf" kit parts. This rig works better than anything we have ever built. 1/2 the frame is Toyota and the other half is a lighter tube frame. The truck currently weighs 3100 lbs, but more weight will be removed from the front in the future. We think we can get it down to 2,900 lbs. Here are some pics from his last run...

Yeah.... but that still doesn't answer the original question?? Where did the truggy go and what's happening with it?? What were his main reasons for selling it after all that work??

Well the truck did ok and was a great learning platform for us. We had help designing and building the chassie from an experienced race truck builder. First testing showed too much suspension flex. We installed stiffer springs and limit straps. This helped some but the rig still did not do as well as it could have. It's also suffered from birfields, and these broke over and over again.

As to it's current state.

One morning I came to work and Jon told me he had sold it but the new owner did not want the motor, tranny, seats, fuel cell, and tires. So I striped the it down to the chassie. The new owner, Shaun picked up the chassie a few day later and took it home. He wanted to put a V8 into it and the front suspension was designed around the toy 4cyl. The V8 is much wider so it was all going to need to be reworked anyway so he just cut the front end off at the firewall. That's the last I have heard about this rig.
