You can use one for a 3.9 Range Rover with V-Belts (not serpentine belt), but not from a Discovery. What year is your 3.5? If you've got the 3-bolt pulleys on the water-pump you'll be fine. If you've got the stud-driven pulleys, you'll also need to locate compatible pulleys (worth it IMO).

its an 88 non-serpentine. i found roverths north and britpac have the same part # for the 2 bores.

so i got it all back together and started to cycle the air out (burp the system) and it immediately ran hot and coolant was being puked out from what seemed to be somewhere behind the WP. wasnt coming out the weep hole, nor was it coming from any hose.

any ideas?

did you put sealant around some of the bolts?
The longer bolts go into the water jacket.
Use gasket maker to seal them up. Any parts store should have some.

ya, i did that-

is there anywhere around the rear of the WP that could be the culprit?

The two small hoses that run behind the water pump can blow and you won't know it until you pressurize the system.

They're a biatch to change, so do yourself a favor, do them both at the same time and do it right.

0000K-
so after 3 cans of degeaser, i found the leak. its the front cover assembly. looks like im gonna have to take it all apart again in classic newb fashion.
anything else i should replace/ check out? i've heard grumblings of timing gear.

being new sucks.

Chuck the engine its a POS anyways :flipoff2: it'll leak out every orafice it can, either oil, coollant or both :D
Next it'll blow the heads, throw a timing chain, screw your valve train, then as a result, a valve chunk will wedge a piston, and then you'll throw a rod!
Trust me! I've seen it a million times before :grinpimp: it all starts with a simple coolant leak.

By the way, I have a newly rebuilt 3.5L w/ 3.9 heads and cam, overbored, new roller timing chain, both: twin downdraft carbs & intake... and a holley carb and intake etc.... nice!!! and its in storage in the Bay Area...
Really!
