I searched around but didn't see anything on topic. I'm gonna patch up some rust hole in my floorboards(68bronco). I'm gonna use 18guage steel and the only wire feed welder I've got is a ready welder. From what I've read I think 1-12 volt battery is the way to go for stuff this thin, but of course I'll do some tests first. Anyone got any experienced tips for using it. I'm a virgin with this welder.

i have only used it for trail repairs and was damn glad to have it.

I used a 6 volt battery + my optima (18v) for some sheet metal, i forget the size, but it worked really good
that thing is BAD ASS!

I guess I'll try to find someone with a 6V battery I can borrow and give it a whirl

Well I bought a 6V battery and wired it up with my optima to try to weld the sheetmetal. As long as the battery had a really strong charge it worked OK. But, I think I killed the 6V battery during the first session. I can't get it to hold a charge now. I think I'll try to rent a real mig and finish it up.
