If you decide to ty welding this diff. please post the outcome. I have a trash lock 44 going into a cheorkee and would rather have it welded if it works...

We are going to tear it apart on Friday evening. I will post the outcome. Welby had a good link. It looks like it should be no problem. Although I am a Toyota guy, I guess I can work on a Jeep every now and again.

It is possible to do so. Peterson's did it on one of their rigs that had a Dana60 with the Track Lock and 30 spline shafts. They had to take some stock steel and weld it to span the clutch packs and weld the carrier to the spiders.

I'm told it's best to use a GOOD mig welder or something that's gonna do a clean, hot weld. Make sure you clean up the weld boogers and all the stuff after you are done because it gets into the r/p and really messes shyt up.

I think the article was called something like the $39.84 locker. (the majority of the cost was in the gear oil and Corona to pay the welder with)

Yes I welded mine up last year. It is no different. Just weld the spiders to each other and make sure you can still get the pin out if you have c clips.

My understanding is that only welding the spiders together is not as strong as welding the spiders together AND welding the spiders to the carrier. I had a buddy weld up my rear Dana60 and he insisted on welding them together and welding them to the carrier. He said, "Since I'll be the one re-welding the damn things on the trail when you break it, I'm gonna make sure it take a LONG time for you to break it!"

A good two to three......... days.... LOL

He knew it would be a while before I got around to putting the 60 in, so I guess that time counts, too.... LOL

Very funny, there motor man.... LOL :flipoff2: :rasta:

Although, I am getting to be like you.... I can go on a trail ride and break on the way home, or break the welds on the rear axle perches (like I just did the other day) in a parking lot after I'd been to Uwharrie like 8 times without breaking shyt...

My shyt breaks at all the wrong times..... I reuined a good set of work clothes the other day pulling the rear driveshaft just tog et her home. One of these days, I'm gonna learn to carry a set of coveralls.
