I am planning a moab trip in march-april and need to figure out what to do with the beast, my dilima is that my body is pretty bashed up and a few trips ago I decided to rework the tailgate and bust out the window(whoops), so I really want to convert it to a pickup sorta or maybe a flatbed but I am trying to think of a way to put a back on the cab when I hack the rear end off. I was thinking a old soft top and just cut it to fit but I thought some body out there may have done this before or has a cool Idea. any info would help.

Funny...I was measuring out where to cut the back off of my 4runner last night! I'm possibly going to cut the bed off about 18-20 inches after the door opening, and just use sheet metal welded on to cap it off. THen I willl build a ~45" long flatbed. For the back of the cab, I'm planning on getting some sunbrella canvas, and make a mini-mini can-back. I was going to photochop some pics to see how it would look...

You guys piss me off. :mad3: You have perfectly good runners, and you're trying to make pickups. I, on the other hand, have a POS pickup that I want to turn into a runner.

Bastards.

:D

...Toyman (who seems to have disappeared) has an ... '85 I think ... Runner that he bobbed and covered. His website is down, but it's http://www.trailreports.com/ ...

...He took off the canopy, put a wall up to the deck height right behind his seats, and built a hinged cover for the rear area. To seal the back of the cab, he used a canvas top with a 'window' in it... It was a beautiful setup.

When I met him in Vancouver, he had his 1/2 doors in under the cover, and on the bottom of the cover he has an axe, shovel, etc strapped on.

...Until I decided I wanted rear seats I really liked the idea. :D

Just FYI.

Well, I don't know if I'd say my runner is "perfectly good"! If you wheeled where I do, following a bunch of flat fendered J$&Ps around, you'd want a pickup too! Actually, I want a flatbed, not a pickup. I need something that can stand up to a little tree massaging more than sheetmetal!! :D
