: 4.3L and 5.7L 700r4 compatability?

So I went to Pick N Pull today in pursuit of a new 700r4. I only found 1 700r4 that was outta a 1/2 ton 4wd, and that truck had a fried motor, so I figured that it very possibly may have damaged the tranny as well. However I did see several 4wd S-10 Blazers with 700r4s, but didn't check to see how many of them were the 4.3L or the 2. something L. I called a Chevy dealership and asked them if the tranny from the S-10 Blazer was compatible, they said no. So I went to Napa and asked the guy there, and he said no because they had different bell housings. I called AMMCO and asked a guy there if the S-10 Blazer tranny and the K5 Blazer tranny were compatable, and he said no also because of the bell housing. However, I have heard from two other private sources that the 4.3L S-10 700r4 will work for a 5.7L Blazer. The 4.3L is just a chopped 350 block right? So why would the bell housings be all that different? If the bell housings are different, is there any way to swap them out for the one off my 5.7L- 700r4?
Thanks,
Nate

Well I am no AMMCO technician, but I know the chevy belhousing is the same for all sizes, it's even now the GM standard.
Now if the S10 blazers were different because they were built by isuzu then I could be wrong but I know the chevy is good BECAUSE ALL bellhousings are the same.

If it's a 4.3 then it will bolt to any small/big block Chevy. If it's not then leave it alone, go to the next vehicle.

Actually from my understanding the 4.3L does fit, but the trannys from the smaller engines for the S-10 (I believe, 2.8 and 2.3(?)) apparently don't fit the 5.7L. That was prolly what was wrong with AMMCO's, Napa, and the Chevy Dealership's interpretation of my question, they must have assumed that I was refering to the smaller block engines. Thanks for your help guys!

the trannies are interchangeable, but the s-10 ones have a lighter case, as well as some weaker internals. i wouldnt worry about that too much unless your runnin some power...after all a tbi 4.3 isnt that far off in hp than a stock carbed 350, especially the earlier 80s ones.

Unless it's a 60 degree V-6 like the 2.8L. They (AFAIK) are NOT the same bolt pattern.
