What year and exactly what type of chevy vehicle should I be looking for in a donar for the HEI/CHEVY 6 cyl swap into my 2f?. I know that it has to be from the 70's and an inline 6, not a v6. I was thinking that a inline 6 from a 78-79 camaro or truck would work. I am pretty sure that my stock dist is going south :( :( :(

Thanks.

You migth consider the distributor from an 83 era 2F. Electronic Ignition, waterproof, already curved for your engine, etc. You will need to get the ignitor and coil with it as your current ignitore and coil will not work. In addition, you will need a fresh engine sidecover and gasket from the same era as it has a dent in the side to clear the larger diameter distributor.

I did a write up on how to do it here on the board, try searching this list for details.

The bottom end of the F engine is the same as the bottome end of the staight 6's that came in camaros and trucks in the late 60's.

I imagine if you found an HEI that fit one of those you would be in good shape. (not that they had HEI back then)

This was in the write up on IH8MUDD

"I ended up with was listed for a '78 Camaro with the 292 in-line 6 cylinder (I believe)."

What I was looking for is what others have used, I would go with the toyota one, but there are alot more HEI, chevy parts around there than there are Landcruiser parts. I know there are some older camaros/2 wd chevys in the junk yard, just trying to get a idea on what exactly to look for. I didn't think they had HEI, until the 80's....

I am going searching on saturday for one. Thanks.
